What really astounding is how many hall monitors are here

Yes, and they're massive hypocrites. The minute they get unfair treatment anywhere (at the grocery store, their kid's school, anywhere at all), they come on here to create whiny poor-me threads. But they absolutely LOVE to dump on others for doing the same. Rules for thee but not for me.

But where is the "unfair" treatment in this case?

OP wasn't stopped for the expired tags it was the illegal U-turn. The expired tags then became part of the problem...

Point was it is not a big deal in Virginia and certainly not something police is allowed to impound your car for. My guess is that this happened in Maryland where officers do have the discretion to impound. Maybe the officer was one of the intolerable trolls on this thread or maybe OP was a dick to the officer.

That it's not usual for a car to be impounded for so little. If this had happened to you, you'd complain too.

I would never in a million years be knowingly driving around an unregistered vehicle like it’s nothing. Not even 3 days, let alone 3 months.

And then breaking other laws too…

You need to check your entitlement.

Oh I think we're several different posters who think that this is a very heavy-handed. Is it legal, though? I have no idea.

Obviously OP has absolutely no regard for our laws. I actually think impounding is the ONLY correct treatment in this situation. Nothing else would change behavior.

Obviously, why not impound OP himself

Troll. Your tune would change in an instant if this were to happen to you. You are not innocent, PP. No one is. Everyone makes mistakes and forgets to pay some random thing at some point or renew whatever. You wouldn't like it if you were treated the way you treat OP. But it's part of your mental illness that you cannot recognize this in yourself. I know your type well.

Hi OP Here, Thank you everyone for responding to my post!

Yes I definitely need to get my life together, this was a great wake-up call for that!
I should have left my house in time so I wouldn’t have felt in such a rush to chance the illegal U-turn.
I also should not have procrastinated getting my emission test done - - I guess the longer I put it off, the easier it became to put it off more.
*sigh*

I was just surprised the officer impounded my vehicle > I expected tickets but not losing my car.
Luckily I was able to retrieve it from the tow yard to get it properly smog checked.

No, this was my first ticket, I have never even had a parking ticket.
And it happened in CA = Southern to be exact!

you should not have disobeyed the traffic laws they exist for a reason you understand ?
I personally hate it when I am about to make a left turn and some stupid driver such as yourself will think it’s okay to make a deliberate unauthorized uturn then since I am not expecting it will almost run into my car.
Be more mindful as a driver op and you won’t have to be paying out of pocket for your stupid decisions.

You sounds like my brother. Some people have to learn the hard way.

Ok, what is the next step now? It's impounded with an expired registration and no emissions test. Do you go to the impound lot, pay the fee and drive off? With the same expired tags?

That doesn't make sense. What if you are stopped 2 blocks from the impound - does the car get impounded again?

I mean, it's not like you can bring inspectors with you as you are paying the fee.

So it doesn't make sense to me to impound a car with expired tags if you can't get an emission test and registration before you pick it up.
