The NRA supports gang shooting? I love this idea that criminals use legal guns. They are using ghost guns which are not registered. They are impossible to track. The NRA does nor support ghost guns. Also, the US Attorney in DC let's tons of criminals put on release who have committed crimes with guns. I was on a grand jury in DC and it was shocking how many felons are walking free in DC with a gun. They are not apprehended unless the commit another felony. |
Notorious drug gangs in the area back to 80s. |

7th has been and remains dicey, violent and with several drug crews. Gentrification has not changed that. |
Would have been safer if he rented a room in Arlington and took the orange line. Sad. |
Depends on how you define 'near'. As the crow flies, sure. But it's across NY Ave, which is worlds away, DC crime wise. Also they tore Sursum Corda down. |
I don't think you understand how much finds an intern has |
“Ghost guns” are a red herring, and registration does nothing to prevent or solve crimes. Criminals don’t register their stolen guns. Possession of firearms by a felon is a felony. There’s no will to stop this. Send every felon in possession to federal prison for ten years. They are easy cases to make. |
Where he was shot is not cheap, just unsafe. The 16 yr old who was shot was likely in a crew and the target. Gentrified buildings does not translate into safety from strays in DC. Can’t put a price tag on being alive. |
People come back to their neighborhood crew if in that life, even if move away. https://washingtoncitypaper.com/article/246555/the-stoop-at-1701-euclid/ |
Here is more background on this neighborhood:

I agree they are easy to make. The problem is that the felon in most cases probably should have had a longer sentence in the first place so that they would not be free to walk the street with a gun. Also, the felon has to commit another crime to be caught and charged with being a felon in possession. They will not be charged while just walking around with the gun. |
It’s terrible. The poor boy. |
The other shooting was in the daytime - a US Marshal shot and killed a person who (according to reddit rumor) had tried to rob him. No official details on that one because the feds keep things quiet. This is really sad. I live in the area and don't think things are meaningfully worse than they've been. And they are better than during peak pandemic. But gun violence is a scourge. |
Restorative justice has been an abject failure. |
There have been several shootings outside the Waterfront metro during peak commuting hours recently. Gentrification along Wharf did not change beefing by young guys in crews selling drugs. Same in Shaw, Columbia Hts and elsewhere. The city has lots of programs for youth but many end up in the life anyway. Easy to catch a stray in DC, wrong place, wrong time. A commuting woman was shot in the Waterfront metro recently, another unintended target. A teen being robbed by a group fired and the bullet ricochet and hit her. Luckily she lived. Other young men in town for do gooder programs have caught strays or been killed while being robbed. Shiny new buildings are no protection. There are notorious drug gangs all the way up 7th and shootings outside the lovely new Shaw library in broad daylight. |
