Horrendous.

WASHINGTON, D.C (WWLP) – A UMass Amherst student from Granby was shot and killed in Washington, D.C., where he was working as a congressional intern.

The Metropolitan Police Department stated in a news release that at approximately 10:28 p.m. on Monday, officers were called to the 1200 block of 7th Street Northwest for the sound of gunshots.

Tarpinian-Jachym was a rising senior at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, majoring in finance with a minor in political science. He joined U.S. Congressman Ron Estes’ Washington, D.C., office as an intern this June.

Terrible. May his memory be a blessing.

There is a lack of policing by the city. DC should be a shining jewel of our nation.

Wasn't there another shooting near the convention center in the last several weeks? What is going on in that area that this is becoming a hotspot for shooting. Very sad to hear about this promising young student's death.

1) the map doesn't even show this area.
2) 7th and M is a notorious violent three block perimeter with many drug and gang related shootings.

I live in shaw and would never walk on 7th from K to RI any time after dark

Not excusing a terrible tragedy, just crappy reporting on such

Condolences to the family for their tremendous loss. Shame on Trump. Shame on GOP. Shame on NRA.
