Congressional Intern shot and killed in DC

Awful. Just thinking about his family and how devastating this must feel. He was just starting out.

Years ago I lived at 9th and P, on the other side of the convention center, and that area was really dicy then. I am sad to hear it's still so bad. I had thought it would have improved by now.

Horrible and just so sad.

Just demoralizing. I bet his family was so proud of him too.

Yes but they moved the residents back in.

Horrible. They really haven’t been able to make a dent in that neighborhood.

That’s not even the same location.

2) 7th and M is a notorious violent three block perimeter with many drug and gang related shootings.

I live in shaw and would never walk on 7th from K to RI any time after dark

Not excusing a terrible tragedy, just crappy reporting on such

People get fooled in DC by not knowing really bad areas are adjacent to commercial/gentrified areas. Like the Benning Rd Starburst is really close to places where the people probably have some vague idea that ā€œAnacostiaā€ or ā€œover the riverā€ is where the bad stuff happens. We recently had a bad experience at Rosedale Pool and I checked the crime maps and realized that basically every pool over the river is safer.

I think the original Sursum Corda was off North Cap, north of Union Station.

Yes. Someone else was shot near the Mt Vernon metro station.
