+1 PP is so adamant and she's wrong. I book multiple rooms for my family all the time. I've also booked rooms for grandparents too. All in my name and one credit card. I might add the grandparents name to the room so they can check in without me, but that's it. |
The requests from the host are bizarre and I would not have complied. Agree with others that I’ve moved away from Airbnb (the fees are out of control, and they’re ruining livability in major cities in Europe and increasingly here). I mostly stay in hotels now.
But OP, did you arrive and get into the place? What’s the update? |
OP. It got worse, unfortunately. The listing said 2 parking spaces. The apartment is in a high rise with reserved parking in a garage. No indication of what our parking spots were. After finally getting ahold of someone to figure out where to park, they said parking is an additional $30 per day. None of this was indicated in the listing. They said they would send a link so I could pay for parking and they would get a parking FOB to me in the morning. Now I'm paying $50 a day to park in a different garage down the street, and they never even sent me the payment link to get parking. Very frustrated with the whole experience. Has anyone gotten a refund or even partial refund from AirBNB? I feel like they should at least cover the cost of my parking. |
Sounds like they are trying to commit Identity theft. |
Repeat after me: you can stay in hotels. |
Sounds like a scam. Repost them and only use proper hotels from now on |
That’s a completely different situation and that’s not a hotel rule. That’s you not trusting your friends to pay for themselves or not trash the hotel room and leaving you with the bill ![]() I travel with either family or people I know well enough that I don’t think twice about putting their rooms in my name. As I wrote above, the only time I add names is when someone other than me is arriving first and doing check in. |
Take screen shots of the listing. |
You are asking to be a victim of identity theft. Cancel ans choose another place. |
If they aren't steeling your identity, a friend of theirs is.
Why would you comply with this. AirBnB is total a FAFO system. |
Tl;dr
This category of story is why we will never AirBnb. It can be good or bad, but there is no reliable way to know before committing. |
Any chance this is in Ballston? We had a very similar experience there once. |
And complain/report to Airbnb. And write a thorough review so others don’t get scammed like this. |
I had something like this happen with an AirBnB. Extra charges for dropping bags off early even though it was agreed upon. Extra charges for sheets for the fold out bed even though it was in the listing. The last minute added charges were annoying but I was able to fight the entire booking because the shower wasn't working. We ended up having to take baths. The toilet took 20 minutes to fill because the water trickled. The sink water flow was also very weak. They had a plumber there who didn't turn on the water supply adequately. AirBnB kept telling me to work it out with the host which wasn't working out. I documented all the wrongs with the booking, including the soiled sheets. I ended up fighting it after we got back using my visa credit card protection. It was only then that AirBnB contacted me offering to knock a percentage off. But my credit card company stood firm. |
Responder above - basically I had visa kick it back to AirBnB to 'work it out' with their host. |
