Well, clearly it's not great if 1% of the kids are passing the math CAPE. But yes, more information would be lovely. |
Why would you send your college bound kid to a school where 99 out of 100 kids are below grade level and 1 of every 2 are way below grade level? Why do you think yelling at people who say "not for me without major change" is a recipe for success? The data says what it say. Sticking your head in the sand and name calling and lecturing on why up is down and black is white will not solve the problem. |
Neither will repeating over and over that Eastern has bad test scores solve anything. |
Eastern could fill some of those 9th-grade lottery seats that are open this summer and raise their test scores in the process if they just said the words "any kid with at grade level PARCC scores can get into our IB program, and you will only be in classes with other kids at or above grade level." It's not complicated at all. |
LOL! Are you new to DC? Because no way is that happening in DCPS. They are going in the opposite direction, just look at JR and honors for all. Equity is lowering standards and lowering the potential of the top. The end. |
That is absolutely happening in DCPS, right now. Look at the Early College program at Coolidge. Look at the IB cohort at Banneker. Both are separate honors groups within larger schools, and both are by application only. |
There actually is an honors program at eastern. |
If the 1% is the IB program students, then that’s fine. Your kid will be in the group of kids that are actually learning. |
I think if you go to the school and ask about the IB program, you’ll get more transparency. |
I think "transparency" doesn't mean what you think it means... But you've illustrated the problem with DCPS's relationship to equity. Eastern should have a robust online presence and lots of info about the IB program, application/admissions, etc. It should be designed to market the program to attract high performing kids. But sadly in the current climate that would be a violation of the perversion of "equity". The program needs to be secret and for sure they can't market it in a way to [GASP] attract high performing kids. |
LMAO |
There is a lot of info on the Eastern website about the EPIC Program, MYP, IB, etc, including timelines and application processes. You can also follow their IB program on Instagram, which I’ve found informative. |
None of it lets you tell if your at or above grade level kid will get in or whether, if they do, that's who they'll be in classes with. |
+1. In name only. That’s the reality. You can name any course you want, honors, IB or what not but what are the results? You actually think the kids in these programs are getting 4 and 5 on AP testing or even just passing which is a low bar or even getting the IB diploma let alone doing well and scoring high. Come on people. Common sense. The school can’t even get the kids on grade level |
Not based on whether you're at grade level. |
