Is FCPS considering closing for Friday June 6 now that Eid begins earlier?

No.

If they give off in zjune, FCPS just needs to make that day the first day of summer vacation and not a day off.

There should be no days off in June.

They aren’t closing.

This is why mcps couldn’t use the June 6th “professional day”as a make up day for snow.

Didn't Eid already happen in March? I am so confused.

Excused absence is the equitable solution, closing a school system for a day is not.

They should allow excused absences, but in the past the concern has been not for student absences but staff. Especially bus drivers and classroom IA’s. They have been concerned about not being able to be fully staffed during these holidays.

I don’t think they will close at this point, but if they do, it’s because of staffing.

Arlington is not closing, the OP is wrong.

I think it was proposed, and they had to take a vote on it in the past few days or so.

It's hilarious that it was even a possibility.

The holiday begins on Friday the 6th at sundown. There’s no need to close schools during the day, the holiday hasn’t started yet.

Eid means festival in Arabic, there are a couple religious holidays with Eid in the name. This one is different than the one in March.

A secular public school system— that, conveniently, schedules to accommodate some religious holidays but not others.

I think the word secular is the confusing part for you. It’s not a religious curriculum. They can choose to have school on any days they choose or not choose.

FCPS didn't have any religious holidays until the School Board added them.

No, because of the timing of the viewing of the moon, the holiday is moved up a day in North America, to begin Thursday at sundown. Hence the proposal last week in APS to close school on Friday 6/6. Due to objections from various parties, that proposal was (narrowly) defeated.

Not in the past 20 years since I have had kids in school.

I think that change happened in the 1980s.
