Is FCPS considering closing for Friday June 6 now that Eid begins earlier?

It isn't changing. Have you seen or heard anything from FCPS on this date that would suggest otherwise?

OP was speculating. FCPS has changed its calendar in the past for the apparently unpredictable Muslim holidays. It's not unlikely they would do it again.

What school does your kid go to? My kid will be done with all finals and all real substance by end of the previous week.

Really?? What school does your kid go to? Or are they a senior? (NP here. Mine are at Chantilly.)

I would bet good money that it will be closed. FCPS did not schedule any graduations on this day since it was a possiblity.

We have a five (5) day weekend next Memorial Day for this holiday. Of course they will close.

And I bet good money it will be open. There will be some statement about it being excused for srudents. Staff can take religious leave.

Fcps won't do the same

The last time they did this for Eid, FCPS tried to cancel AP exams for the entire district, 3 weeks from the tests.

People went ballistic over it, including muslim families. Fcps ended up backtracking and allowed AP exams to continue.

I cannot see them following APS after what happened the last time FCPS tried to make a major last minute change for Eid's moon cycles, especially given the heightened angst over childcare and return to office.

Fcps has a full plate right now with outrage over rezoning. I just can't see them adding to that by cancelling school 3 weeks out for a purely religious event.

Well, a lot of countries ch ave their calendars based on a whim from the moon.

Yeah. And the PP said, “Enough of this stupidity”. I perhaps assumed incorrectly that that was referencing FCPS, but it could have been referencing the OP.

Most likely, there is a separation of church and state issue with this one, as changing the calendar 2-3 weeks out is being done purely for religious reasons. Someone is going to sue (and win) over this one.

They did this in FCPS two years ago.

I teach at Robinson. We’ve been instructed that we must give our final exam or present final projects or do the final activity during the final exam block. Instruction is to continue until that point.

The exception is seniors who graduate May 27. Their grades are due Monday.

A couple years ago they just made it an O day, no exams or tests that day.

Moco had June 6 off all along. Other local districts should have done the same

Excused absence is the equitable solution, closing a school system for a day is not.

They better not close. They just sent me a reminder yesterday about the 8th grade field trip that day ans I paid $50 for it.

Yup we have field day that day! Rescheduling now would be a mess.
