Or they may be at a party/event where someone needs it. Don’t be dense PP.

Not my kid’s problem.

+1. Not sure I would want my kid involved TBH

+1,000 my kid is not going to be responsible for using Narcan on some random drugged up person.

This is my husband's position. I took the training offered by the county and got the Narcan. Our teen has heard both arguments and will have to decide for himself what he'll do if faced with the situation.

Is it not dangerous to even come into contact with fentanyl while rendering aid?

I have high schoolers who are pretty terrified of drugs. I actually don't know who it appeals to. You can die from one time use! It's scary and not worth it. Some kids at school definitely vape and do pot. Not that.

That’s weird. You probably wouldn’t be able to use in time anyway. You’d have no idea why the person is passed out and then you’d swoop in with your Narcan?! So stupid.

Except I am a doctor who has administered narcan plenty of times. Although, you are right, in a non hospital setting, it’s not as easy to correctly assess the situation. I have rendered aid a few times as a bystander and I felt flustered outside of the hospital. I keep 2 doses in my car and 2 doses next to my go bag in the mudroom. If you don’t feel comfortable using narcan, I still think it’s a good idea to have on hand. If you haven’t seen it work, there’s a reason it’s called the Lazarus drug.

I really hope someday, when your kid makes a poor decision that kids sometimes do, another kid doesn't see your kid and say "not my problem"

What about Good Samaritan Laws? How about if it’s your kids friend? Or your own kid? And be careful before you type “my kid would never…”

If my kids' "friend" gets himself into a situation where he needs narcan, my kid would be smart enough to know that this is not the kind of person s/he should be hanging out with. And yes, my kid would never. I will say it.

I do and I will say it. They are not stupid enough to get themselves involved with smoking, vaping or drugs of any kind.

So while someone is needing Narcan right in front of them, your kid is evaluating their relationship status with that kid?

Nice.

It can accidentally or unknowingly happen to even the most straight-laced kids.

So attempted murder happens a lot everywhere? Because that is pretty messed up.

And other drugs can be unknowingly laced with fentanyl.

Aggressive r*pey guys will put whatever they find into a woman's (or men's, if they are into that) drink to incapacitate them and not check too hard to see if the drug has been adulterated, if there was any way they can check in the first place.

So yes, attempted r*pe happens a lot every where.

You can also accidentally get exposed to fentanyl if your roommate or friend brings some back to the room, or if they overdose and you try to help them.

Just because your kid won't do drugs (like I didn't when I was in college) doesn't mean that everyone around them will be.

Fair enough, but it doesn't seem like much of a solution: you're assuming the other roommate is 1. Even there 2. Has narcan and will administer, which is pretty low odds if the kid is so careless with drugs in the first place. And for the rapey guy, you're better off watching your drink because neither rape nor death sounds like a good outcome.
