Waitlisted Arlington Travel Soccer

OP here- so was anyone else waitlisted and what does it mean exactly? I’m assuming - nothing. But curious if anyone else has experience.

I wouldn't take a waitlisted spot because it means your kid is the coaches last pick. Theoretically it would be a blank slate once the team is formed, but realistically the coach doesn't expect your kid to shine and will coach accordingly. There are exceptions to this, but think carefully. It's worse to get on a team where you are the weak link.

except it’s possible that OP’s kid is really good, but tryouts just didn’t show it.

OP- that’s exactly it. He played poorly during tryouts but he is a strong player. But I don’t even know that it’s a spot. I’m assuming it’s - your kid is good enough that we don’t want to say outright now, but ain’t happening this year… (?)

I’d take the waitlist and continue exploring other teams. Possibly committing to another team - worst case you just lose your deposit.

At that age and low level of travel, Arlington ADP plus Rec would be a much better development option. A lot less money too!

We got off the waitlist years ago and dc progressively climbed teams.

OP - they didn’t offer anything, just said he’s waitlisted. Not that there is any deposit required. Is that normal?

OP again- sorry to be dense, but how do you know which coaches are coaching which teams? I only know of a few coaches, not 9 if they really have 9 teams. Should I just ask the general number which is the coach of the lowest travel team? Is that a rude question or totally normal? Thanks!

OP - seeing your latest questions after all the helpful responses from different PPs makes me think that you know what is going on but fishing for affirmation until you hear the answer that you want to hear. If your kid wants travel, stay on the list and see what happens. Can you also go to the ADP tryout just in case?

My kid will never be a travel player, and ADP has been a great fit. He wanted to play soccer more days and was tired of the kids who just goof off at rec practice.
