This year the youngest age group had 8 teams. Maybe for next year they don't want to get to 9.

If there are 8 teams, do you really care about a waitlist? Best case scenario your kid gets on an 8th team with an 8th team coach. Why not look at a neighboring club?

The 8th team coach at Arlington for 2017B is actually the current coach of the 2015B Pre-Academy team that are awesome. The 8th team is comprised of mainly 2018 players to get them ready to be the top team the following year.

For boys they carry 9 teams for 2014, INSANE!

Where are you getting this from there are 6 teams and they keep the rosters small. Most rosters are 12-13 kids. Other clubs have 16 for 9v9

Arlington is the worst at these ages. There is one coach for two teams with an assistant. This means one coach is coaching 30 kids in practice and the lower teams usually gets the assistant as coach of their games. Second team is lucky to get any interaction with the coach. The coach spends all their time with the top 4-6 on the first team and ignores the rest. This runs counter to recommendations of that age group in terms of coach per player ratios. This catches up to Arlington in the older ages.

So second team Arlington(and all even teams-2, 4, 6, etc) are the red head step child of the soccer world.

Each coach gets 2 teams because the size of the teams are so small ~10 players and without 2 teams you could never actually scrimmage 7v7.... it makes sense and at the end of the day at this young age all that matters is touches on the ball and games and thats what they are getting.... the kids that have natural ability will rise to the top with good or bad coaches at that age.. playing is what matters

Do you know how ridiculous this sounds?

I agree it is all ridiculous but I believe they are just trying to explain how the Arlington program works.

They create 6 teams for the main age group (in this case, 2017). Then historically 1-2 teams made up of the very promising next year players (here 2018s) who are coached by a top coach and essentially the target for top teams the following years.

So depending on OPs birth year, child is technically on the waitlist for the 6th (bottom) 2017 team or a top 2018 team (with a strong coach).

I have an older, sometimes starter on a 3rd team who just loves the sport, so no skin in this game, but that is the structure for Arlington teams during the initial tryout year.

Over time and as the number of players on the field increases, they end up with 5-6 teams per age group.

Rankings app shows that the club is carrying 9 boys teams. Maybe its an error but according to them, they have 9 different boys teams actively playing in leagues/events.

Or two teams could have different coaches and just practice at the same time and scrimmage (that's what our club does with the top two teams at the younger age groups). Agree with PP that one coach for 30 kids is crazy.

JFC. 8 teams?!?! Good grief Arlington is a cash cow.

Holy FKKK! Arlington needs to limit the teams. Then, there would be a stronger Rec program. At the youngest ages, development can be had w.out paying so much $$ and being 'travel'.

Why limit? Expand not limit.

It's not always that easy. With traffic around here going to the next town over just for practice can easily be 30-45 minutes one way. Then you have to stay and wait during the practice and then head back. Not everyone has that kind of time.

Isn't the 8th team really 2018s .. so planning to be next year's top team thus they have this coach? Regardless, we got an offer as well, but are choosing to be closer to home, so spots will open up, OP, but no clue on what team.

If you want on, reach out to the coach of the lowest team. Tell them how your kid is really dedicated and perhaps give them the name of a reference of someone else involved in Arlington soccer. I know of a kid that was once waitlisted that ended up on ECNL. They have no idea at this age. The show of interest indicates a potential long-term customer - I bet they will add you to the roster.

Try ASA. This board thinks they are awful, but that is mostly people comparing their older team's records against other clubs.

At a young age, ASA is smaller, probably among the most convenient if you are looking at Arlington, and they really focus on development for the littles.

Yea the lowest team called Ajax is comprised primarily of 2018 kids with a coach that theoretically will stay with them the next season and be the top team. The idea is get this kids really young and train them up so they should be better the next year then kids that are only playing travel for the 1st time. They are so young so who knows at this point. Good luck to all.
