High protein plant-based diet

Anonymous
OP, I was about to write a similar post and came across this thread.

Anyone have other good recommendations for protein based snacks or small meals? I’m not vegan/vegetarian and don’t particularly like tofu or lots of beans so any other suggestions are welcome.

Also, does anyone have a particular protein brand powder you recommend? Again, don’t care if it’s vegan.

I’d stay away from the shakes.
Tempeh is really high in protein, cube it up and air fry it. Eat edamame as daily snack. Use only soy milk. You can get soy milk powder and add that, too. Butlers soy curls are delicious and unprocessed, hydrated and cook with bbq sauce.
Tofu - silken to need your own dressings, regular ti make eggless salad, spring rolls, sushi, fried rice…
And remember peas have protein. Add them to recipes or salads.

I have one orgain shake a day - 140 cal, 20 protein. Easy start.

Oatmeal - half oats, half TVP, fruit, nuts, seeds, about 18 grams of protein. Make it with soy milk to add another 10 grams of protein!

Veggie wraps - those mission low carb tortillas are 5 protein each so two of them plus tons of veggies and either tofu, seitan, or tempeh makes a 30 protein meal easily. I use silken tofu to make higher protein dressings, they’re great.

Morningstar veggie burgers are like 110 calories and 10 grams of protein! Add them to whatever you want, chop them up into pasta sauce or just wrap in a high protein tortilla.

Tofu stir fries, fruit smoothies with soy milk, huge salads with tofu and beans, the list goes on and on.

Try googling wfpb + protein. Don’t listen to the idiots, they’re all angry because their arteries are clogged with animal fats and the blood’s not getting to their brains.

Reading this made me nauseated. Soy is so bad for women.

Not this woman! I eat it daily and haven’t had a single negative menopausal symptom. It’s a healthy and protective protein for women.

I have a dairy intolerance and limit soy (thyroid condition).

My go to snacks:
Hard boiled eggs
Nuts
Legumes

All of my high fat, high protein friends are healthy and not on HRT; those who choose the SAD diet or go low fat, high protein are on HRT and other drugs. The choice is clear to me.

-50 yr old woman who is healthy and on zero pharmaceuticals eating high fat, high protein

It usually does when anyone mentions plant-based eating. For reasons unknown to me the concept makes many people very angry. You would think all of these people work in the meat and dairy industry. Lighten up folks, the OP is not trying to take away your steak or your burger.

To answer your question - some good suggestions have been made. I would throw peanut butter and almond butter on the list, both of which are excellent sources of protein. You can find many options, including those that are made just from peanuts or almonds and no other ingredients. I would recommend those rather than the versions filled with sugar, salt, and palm oil that commonly populate American grocery store shelves.

That's you projecting your own anger at others telling you simple scientific facts that contradict your beliefs.

The ones you must be ignoring?

DP. What facts? I didn’t see any facts in this thread, just lots of opinions with nothing to back them up.

There is too much highly processed food in this daily menu though. Or since you love internet acronyms, too much HPF. Rounded out with some LPF.

note that I am not suggesting steak as the answer.

More variety with legumes and nuts (spices, vinegars) to minimize boredom. And the knowledge that evidence is pretty compelling that eggs by themselves don’t raise serum cholesterol.
