Kid missing test this week due to illness

If you’re doing rolling gradebook by this point in the year there should be a minimum of 6 summative assignments, likely more, so even a 0 isn’t going to bring an A to a C (though I understand it could bring an A to a B)

Have your child email the teacher and arrange a time to take it NOW, before the end of the quarter, and explain the predicament about honor roll. Might work, might not. I’d be willing to fudge the grade for the report card and put it back after.

My kid is too sick to email at this point. I emailed the teachers to let them know. The teacher reached out to me to explain the penalty. I asked if there was anything they could do. The teacher will not budge. Seems overly harsh. Kid is an A student.

Yes. Flu B and then mid way through the week took a turn for the worse and experiencing extreme nausea/vomiting. On Zofran now.

Another poster here - my kid had the Flu and just looking at the screen hurt DC's eyes...so I get this.

So is this a case of the teacher just being inflexible or is there some leeway? Does she have to enter 50% for a missed test??

We have been instructed to put "absent" (which auto fills to 50%) for 2 weeks after a missed assignment, and then change it to a 0 if it still hasn't been completed.

Is there oversight? Not really. I could get away with putting it as a 0 after 1 week or never putting in the 50.

Generally I input grades a week after a test is taken, so either you get a grade or a 0 at that point. It's more work for me to remember to go back and change it, and it results in kids panicking at the end of the quarter when i put blank tests in as 0s, so it's easier to immediately put in the low grade and then change it when they take it.

This. I think that’s what’s bothering me - she’s very quick to input the 50% rather than just leaving it blank. It feels punitive and my child already feels the teacher doesn’t like her.

Since the quarter ends this week, I thought that any tests or assignments towards that grade were completed last week and that anything new would apply to quarter 4? At least that’s how one of my son’s teachers are doing it. Why wait until the last minute?

we don't have rolling grade book. The teachers put the zeroes in the day of the assessment. Fastest they've ever posted a grade!!! One of her classes has NO summative work for the third quarter.

No way she'll go back tomorrow. REALLY sick.

If they don’t have rolling gradebook they can’t count this on this quarter.
