Kid missing test this week due to illness

Anonymous
Hello,

Quick question. My child is missing a test this week due to illness. Grades are due Friday. Does the teacher have to enter a 50% until it is taken or is there any leeway? The 50% will lower the quarter grade obviously. Thanks.

Anyone?

Not a FCPS parent but wanted to say that if I were in your shoes I’d contact the teacher and maybe even the counselor to let them know of your child’s illness and anticipated return to school. I’d ask how they would like to your child to arrange to make up the test

Also if it exceeds the allowable time to be considered excused, I’d be sure to have a doctor’s note.

It might not count towards this quarter’s grade. Without rolling grade book there isn’t a chance to retake it in qtr 3 so it might carryover into quarter 4.

To clarify, it’s a rolling gradebook. Grade will be updated once it’s taken but now the quarter grade will be lower on actual the report card due to this 50%. It doesn’t seem right?

What difference does the quarter grade even really make with a rolling gradebook?

Thanks for the update. I thought everybody had switched off of rolling gradebooks.

What is the allowable time to be considered excused?

As far as I can tell, you as a parent need to email and copy the counselor about every flipping little thing.

What do you mean? All FCPS MS and HS are required to use the same exact grading system. Rolling gradebooks, 70% of the grade is tests etc.

Not true. Rolling grade book is a school by school decision.

Can you explain what you mean? I don’t understand it.

It does in terms of honor roll.

Teachers handle things so differently. Sometimes they are so inundated with grading they put a marker in and forget about it. We had that happen-the marker was 50% and our kid hadn't taken the test yet. Just email the teacher, let her/him know the situation and ask.

I did. Teacher seems to think she must enter 50% as county policy and won’t change it until child takes the test.
