Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS)
| My kids went through fcps and this was never a problem. Maybe FCPS could just stop changing FLE all the time and they might catch a break. |
| since when did they add 3 more school board memebers? |
This took too long! |
If you read about it, it's just incorporating the fact that gay people exist in the already existing week of FLE education. At fifth grade, it acknowledges that some kids identify differently than their sex at birth during that week of sex ed. I do not care about this. Whatever your beliefs, simply teaching that "you will see this out there in the world" is frankly, just good bullying prevention. I care most about preventing bullying as it seems avoidance of teaching about differences leads kids to be jerks sometimes. |

It is like a day of incorporating the acknowledgement that gay people exist in the existing FLE program. Chill out with the overreaction. |
| She's right that FCPS won't care about her. |
Well said! And so obvious yet so many “parent’s rights” people don’t understand that parents have different ideas so no one will ever get everything they want in a school system. |
| What is gender studies? History of women's oppression? We need students to learn History so we don't repeat it....like Project 25. |
+100 She clearly stated that the SB did a survey which showed NO ONE wanted this - and they went right ahead and implemented it. This is their MO. |
| I agree with her and I'm a Democrat and not religious. |
| The comments on that tweet are spot on! |
When this video was made, the board had just unanimously voted to explore introducing gender identity education in elementary schools. They also voted to add a video for 7th graders that discusses transgender, nonbinary, and agender topics as part of a lesson on puberty. Parents objected to this but the board moved ahead anyway. https://go.boarddocs.com/vsba/fairfax/Board.nsf/goto?open&id=D58L7D52F3DB |
| She should send her son to Parochial schools. |

FCPS is one of the best public school systems in the nation. I say this as a parent in MCPS, also one of the best public school systems in the nation. They're progressive, certainly. I like that. Do they sometimes go too far in DEI and such? Yes. That's fine by me. I'd rather be MORE tolerant than LESS tolerant. |
