And it does not get into that some kids identify differently for gender till fifth grade. I discovered my ten year old is already aware of this before I even bothered to talk to him about it.

Personally for me, shrug.

DP to add, this would just be FLE education? So maybe a day or two of learning this as part of the age appropriate sex ed that is already done? This sounds like a mountain out of a mole hill.

FCPS is an abundant target for EM/DOGE/the current administration. Judge the woman if you want to, but most of the nation sympathizes with her concerns. Those of you who criticize her or her message - you and your self righteous limousine liberalism are the reason why we have the current administration and congress.

+1
Most of the nation does, indeed, agree with this woman. Which was no doubt Musk's point in tweeting it.

We cannot teach kids that yes, some kids have two moms or two dads even though other kids talk about this and observe it? That is what this curriculum entails. I DGAF. Teaching this basic fact helps curtail bullying, frankly.

Geez, just homeschool or do private if you are going to analyze every thing the school does.

Parents shouldn’t have to homeschool because the school board ignores their input.

Agreed! Fairfax county should be very, very embarrassed. Wow just wow.

FCPS and Fairfax County are planning to forgo hundreds of millions of dollars in federal contributions in defiance of the federal administration’s policies on undocumented immigration, gender identity, DEI initiatives with entire departments, and allowing boys to participate in girls’ sports. This decision is a major factor behind the significant budget deficit facing FCPS—one they expect taxpayers to cover. It’s a clear example of the priorities of the current liberal-leaning school board.

This is also a clear starting point being highlighted by Elon, and it wouldn’t be surprising if we see a “Massachusetts governor” moment unfold between Fairfax County and Trump soon. Do parents and taxpayers really want to self-fund this? I guess we’ll find out.

There is no such thing as age appropriate sex Ed for a kindergartener unless it’s coming from the parents.

It is FLE, it is age appropriate. FLE already atarts in kindergarten, just teaching about "good" vs "bad" touches and respecting personal.space. Actual sex ed does not occur till 5th which is the same grade I learned about it in 1990.

At kindergarten, it literally only means teaching kids that some kids have two moms or two dads. Teaching this would help curtail bullying which is a good thing. F

Teaching that some kids might identify differently would not be taught till fifth. Again that would help with bullying.

This is hysteria over nothing. Read the actual curriculum.

Are you insane, NONE of that is appropriate! You must be on the school board.

It is creating mass hysteria over a day of basic education as part of FLE. But being interpreted as an entire "class" in gender studies like it's a 3 credit college course. I listened to the video and sure it made me upset. Then I actually read about it. And rolled my eyes.

That’s not why there is a shortfall. Commercial real estate, inflation and more. It was all in the board presentation.

Nope just a parent. My kid has a friend with two gay parents. Why is it not ok to deter bullying by teaching kids that yes, this is true before they end up making fun of other kids? You sound unhinged.

Well, she really didn’t say much about what the issue is. I have a kid in FCPS and I don’t know what “gender studies” they’ve covered. I have no idea what “ideology” she’s concerned about. FCPS has a lot of kids in it. I don’t see how they can “partner” with every parent. I’ll agree with some stuff
FCPS does, some other stuff I’ll wish they did differently, but ultimately, I’m not the king of FCPS, so I don’t get to be final decider on the curriculum. It seems ridiculous to me that any parent thinks that the school system could be a perfect proxy for them.
