U of St Andrews - Admissions per State

Anonymous
Travel costs from the East cost is not bad at all. You can get to St Andrews and back twice a year for less than $1000 each way. Say add$3k. It is still a great deal at $43k vs a lot of privates in the US. Also room and board is cheaper than most t60 Privates where room and board is approaching $20k.

I was sent a spreadsheet about this by our UK college consultant. What else would you like to know?

Is there any data about percent attending from US who graduated from boarding, independent, parochial, or public schools?

Unfortunately no. The data is very simple. Number of applications per state for those 3 years and number of acceptances for each state during the same period.

Without transport it's about 55k a year no? For room board and tuition?

Room and Board depends what type of dorm you secure. But the cheapest option is about 6k lbs. That is $7700.

In DOLLARS:
$40k Tuition
$8k Room and Board
$48k

Still a lot cheaper than the typical SLAC or PRivate with 35k of Merit Aid per year.

CT is full of NYC finance types. Some of these may be UK families who transferred from London to NYC for work.

Also NYC Finance types may be fine with their kids earning UK degrees and working in London to start.

The state is based on your home address, not where you went to school. You cant live in NYC and go to boarding school in CT and count for CT. You would count for NY…..

We are seriousy considering this but cost is important if you can help clarify??

I'm interested too in figuring out rough 'all in' cost of St. A. We have not visited; D accepted and need to decide, possibly w/o a visit.

Shared room, catered nad standard at Andrew Melville is 7200 pounds….so PP was close. That is 9285 dollars.
But if your want to go cheap you can go Self Catered STD at Gannochy for 5953 pounds or $7700. But that means you need to cook for yourself.

So realistically $9300 for Room and Board is the cheapest option. For $40k for tuition.

You are all in for under $50k.

As someone whose kid is also in, if you can, I highly suggest you go visit. The town is not for everybody. It clicked with my son the moment he sat foot in the place in ways that very few US schools did. But I would not recommend selecting the next 4 years of my life without visiting.

Why is everybody responding within the quotes….quite confusing…

It is basically $50k with room and board. Travel another $3k per year.

For the right kid, it is definitely a great option if you dont have a ton of merit at t20-t50 privates.

Dormitory Housing at StA can be challenging to obtain after 1st year. Some Uni housing is a bus ride away from town. Local rentals are often expensive. Good academic option, but look carefully at the housing situation.

Everybody says that. But my daughter had no problems finding housing if you are willing to share an apt with 3 or 4 other kids. She is a Jr now and for the last 2 years she has been in the same apt in town with 3 other kids. They each pay about $800/mo.

Great information and discussion. What was the total number of applications?
