Sorry, the data is just applications and acceptances by state for those 3 years. But we do know that International Relations is by far the most popular with americans. It is a large freshman class of about 280 or so for IR and about 50% of those are Americans. |
Is it because they think they can meet a Prince there? |
Regardless, it would be interesting to understand why CT kids accept 50% of the offers vs the typical 33% from other states. |
Have a kid in the W&M and St Andrews joint degree program. US recruiters are well of St Andrews and view it in a positive manner. Advantage of graduating from St Andrews as an American is that DC qualifies for a two year UK work visa by being a graduate of St Andrews. So they have more employment options. |
Good point. I keep forgetting about the Joint Degree in IR. This definitely helps with perception of the school in general since it is one of the few UK schools that has such a program. |
Technically only Princesses now…. ![]() Currently, Lady Louise Windsor, daughter of Prince Edward and Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh attend St Andrews…. ![]() |
Don’t forget Countess Luana of Orange-Nassau….. ![]() |
Is there any data about percent attending from US who graduated from boarding, independent, parochial, or public schools? |
I wonder if kids going to boarding schools have more targetted applications b/c of private school restrictions on applications or generally better college counseling |
St Andrews offers a better bang for the buck for independent kids bound for the Grinnell or Middlebury tier of SLACs. |
How much does it cost for an American to go to St Andrews? Is it the basically the same or similar cost for all the English/Scottish/Irish universities? |
International fees vary from university to university, UK schools 3 years, those in Scotland 4 years. |
For most programs it is 31k British Lbs per year. At today’s exchange rate that is $40k per yr. The equivalent of 50% Merit Scholarship at Private schools in the US. Most English schools will be cheaper simply because they are 3 yr programs. Scottish universities are 4 years because they give you an a opportunity to explore other modules (courses) in your 1st and 2nd year. |
Agree. My DS made his list of SLACS and T25 to t60 privates with one Ivy reach. He was waitisted at his Ivy, will find out soon. Got in 2 SLACS with very little merit and 2 t50 privates with very little merit…. Right now he is St Andrews bound unless his Ivy waitlist becomes real… |
And they offer no FA. Which is a great deal for DCUM folks, but a lot of people can’t pay $40k plus travel costs. |
