Top 20 schools Dept. of Education left off the naughty list

There have been a number of antisemitic incidents, but they were condemned in no uncertain terms and disciplinary action promised.

Here is the ADL report card. Not perfect, but surprised they were seen to rise to the level of the "list."
https://www.adl.org/campus-antisemitism-report-card/american-university

So basically any school that gets a "C" is due to student-generated campus climate issues, even if admin response and Jewish life on campus are above average to excellent. If the problem is the students, and admin is responding correctly, what else is a university to do?

I looked up the ND ADL report card and while Jewish life was satisfactory, admin was not. They got a C overall

So not sure what it is, but it’s not that.

No way, this is definitely a college topic. And sorry but your orange man and Astro boy have managed to make every possible other topic political 🤷🏻‍♀️

All college topics are now inextricably linked to politics, thanks to Trump. He's put his overreaching fingers into everything.

I believe he's just using last year's protests as an excuse to make universities wary of holding any future protests against Trump! He wants to clamp down on freedom of expression at universities because they are a threat to Trump. He also wants to gut grants, funding and dept of Ed because he wants to weaken our nation's colleges. Trump is aware that it is the non-college educated that are his most reliable base. He's trying to stifle those that would oppose him, by using antisemitism as his excuse.

I think it's because they were tied to policies under the former president, who resigned. Not sure what campus climate is like now.

no. other colleges had people resign, even presidents.

this list is typical for this admin: a list was made, was shown around a table and everyone took their favorite school off for no real reason other than alumni status or they like the football team or whatever. totally random and subjective and whatever the fat white guys thought in the moment. the conversations went like this:

"take notre dame off, my son is there."
"done. anyone else?"
"can I add a school? I heard about this one thing on Joe Rogan and it's just a woke bs"
"of course. add, remove, whatever you want"

Vance has no real power in this administration. He is meant to just parrot whatever Trump & Elon say. Vance also was a DEI admit to Yale law (non-combatant veteran & low income) but he likely has no power to take any of his schools off the list.

If that’s the case, how come Ohio State (Vance’s alma mater) is on the list?

this is a kangaroo presidency. I don't take anything they do seriously.

they just want to undermine and control all of our institutions, especially our universities.

I think it’s based on the number of complaints of antisemitism that were filed with the justice department at each school

It is not surprising to me that some of these schools don’t have a lot of complaints like Notre Dame or Duke or Vanderbilt. Vanderbilt has one of the largest Jewish populations of any private school.

Same with Duke. Very active and loud Jewish community. Parents are invited starting on day one

Yes, Republicans want to squash free speech and critical thinking.

To me, some of the schools listed above surprised me, namely MIT and UCLA as I recall reading about some very intense pro Palestine protests on campus where Jewish students felt unsafe. Did they already clean up their acts?

I wouldn't get caught up in the details of which college did what. This admin doesn't care. This is all a pretext to exert control on colleges which he (and all would-be autocrats) see as a threat. If you kiss Trump's a-- and do what he says and don't challenge him, you'll get off this list. He's just doing this all as a threat and a warning for them to fall in line. I hope the colleges push back and get great legal counsel.

Trump is petty and vindictive and doesn't have integrity. He won the election, but he'll go down in history as the worst American president. In two short months, he's already destroyed our economy and tanked the markets. Our 529s are dropping value just like his grift stock Trump meme coin.

Notre Dame had zero antisemitic incidents.

I fully agree but I'm also worried that Trump's heavy-handedness here will create a backlash against Jewish students who attend any of these institutions. Like we'll get blamed for Trump's actions even if we don't support this action of his.

You all understand that Trump is just following Orban's playbook in Hungary, to take control of the country's universities, right?

The antisemitism thing is just an excuse. Please understand what's really going on - they're trying to take control of universities to indoctrinate students, as is done in authoritarian countries.

Here's JD Vance talking about it last year before he was Trump's running mate

Correct.

Northwestern was a mess last year, but they cleaned up their act VERY quickly this summer, including requiring antisemitism training of their students both online prior to coming to campus, and in person the first week back.

Northwestern did it prior to Trump coming to office, when Kamala had that big bump, so what they did to fix the issues was not performative to appease the new administration.

I am also surprised that MIT is not on the list, unless the students there did not lodge formal OCR complaints.

Agree. They just want to kill education and research. They also want to yell schools what to teach and criminalize speech. First amendment be damned. Anti Israel remarks are not antisemitism.
