The pandemic effect on voters

Oh come on. Every single person with half a brain could see this train wreck coming as soon as the shutdowns started. We were all prepared to do 2 weeks. After that time it was clear that Covid wasn’t an indiscriminate killer - it targeted the old/infirm and obese/unhealthy. We should never have shut down our entire society once we knew who the virus was affecting.

Not correct. Those who lost their lives in my network were healthy, young and without preexisting conditions.

Great, you sold your country to Russia over COVID. Was it worth it?

I await your hateful comments!

NP. I didn’t move, but my experience with the pandemic and all that went with it has made me realize how much I despise progressives. And I probably would have considered myself one pre-pandemic.

I’ve also become firmly opposed to public sector unions. They cannot be trusted. Still a big supporter of private unions though.

Hmm, who was President for the first year of the pandemic? Why don’t you blame Trump for the shutdowns?

Remember when Trumped wanted to reopen society for Easter? People called him insane, reckless, unhinged, and dangerous. We should have listened.

I listen to Ben Shapiro to try to understand our veer to authoritarianism.

He is not measured and informative, he is provocative and angry and makes up facts.

I assume you were a suburban mom who just didn’t pay attention, and always liked the idea of a man in charge telling you what to do. Did you ever have a career?

It killed many young people in China, and if all the “old/obese” got sick, we no longer would have hospital capacity for when your kid got hit by a texting driver while biking. Maybe you would say just let them die at home, but you would end up with desperate John Q Public escalations.

There were *only* 1.2 million deaths in the US due to social distancing, wearing masks and following all the common sense that Republicans were against. If Trump were to have reelected in 2020 with someone like RFK Jr handling the crisis, there would have been millions of more deaths.
Covid is not a big deal anymore but we should not forget those who lost their lives and those whose lives were permanently altered.

I was in a blue state that let districts decide.

It was not easy but for heavens sake it was a crisis. I you thought all these 50 year old teachers were going to risk death from an Infectious disease just to please you you are a loony tune.

My son missed out a lot as was he was the class of 2020. But I am not going to vote Republican ever after seeing the nonsense since Jan 20. And I was never stupid enough to vote for the orange conman.

What a stupid comment. We want our kids to learn, and we can’t homeschool like you can.

Wait until Dept of Ed shuts down and standards are abolished. Vouchers will be norm, but not cover full private tuition, and public schools will empty out and you will be expected to quit an home school like a good woman and mother should.

We needed it to take a few kids out.

NYT had a good article/longform piece about the after effects of COVID policies recently as well. Gift link: https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2025/03/04/opinion/covid-impact-five-years-later.html?unlocked_article_code=1.2k4.xgcv.lVf2EBmGZZ-o&smid=nytcore-ios-share&referringSource=articleShare

Censorship around COVID information (yes, a lot of it was false/misinformation but people felt that their opinions were being silenced) led Elon Musk to buy Twitter and basically end all moderation on it, which then lead to Twitter becoming more right wing, which directly contributed to Trump’s win in 2024.

I agree - Covid and the Covid response messes everything up. It felt like no one knew what was going on and that the left was insisting on restrictions in order to basically come down on the other side against Trump. I knew when he was calling for open schools in fall 2020, that the schools would not open unless he was voted out, and that is exactly what happened.

No. I got the Trump vaccine. DW was forced to get it because was state law enforcement.

All you folk angry at the libs and dems for this should go back and revisit your thinking. This all happened during the Trump administration. Trump. Not Biden, not Harris, not Clinton or Obama. Trump.

Moreover, the specific decisions were made by local, not federal, authorities. And somehow, I bet that the majority of you supported those decisions and now just want someone to b***h at.

And to those mad at the teacher's unions? That union is for the protection of the union members, not your kids. And no, your precious croth-goblins do not trump the right of adult teachers to be in what they consider a safe environment.

The Democrats discredited themselves during Covid. Everyone saw. AWFLs (affluent white female liberals) went full Karen. It was bad.

It's true that a lot of the damage was done a) during Trump admin; and b) by state and local officials. However, the Democrats were much more enthusiastic about the destructive Covid protocols.
