Most Americans are supportive of the death penalty for murderers. Don't die on a hill over fringe issues that imapct very few people, but alienate large numbers of voters.

Most GOP and Christians, particularly evangelicals, are supportive. Dems and independents are not. That number has also fallen per other studies.

So, no. Dems do not need to step down. LOL re fringe issues…Trumpsters are obsessed with trans people’s business.

I think once Trump gets word of this, he's going to make this the default death penalty method, on live TV.

Probably the most humane method, to be honest.

Not the injection?

Eff no. That's apparently one of the most painful

The comment section of that article is eye-opening. I guess people are really on board with the government having the discretion to be barbaric.

What’s barbaric about putting to death someone who killed two innocent people? He chose his own method of execution.

Because we are better than a murder. The fact that you ask this tell me there is something seriously wrong with you.

Then keep murderers in prison for life, but you probably think that's not fair either.

Not PP but another person against the death penalty. Of course he should be in prison for the rest of his life. Brutally murdering two people in cold blood? Yeah, not safe in society.

I am a Christian, and killing people in retribution is antithetical to the teachings of Jesus.

If the state is going to murder people the firing squad actually is the most humane. Highly accurate and no suffering. Lethal injection can seem more clinical but it goes wrong too often.

PP here. Actually, I'm a Christian who is opposed to the death penalty, too; but I'm disgusted by the early release of murderers or shorter sentences than life. It happens too often.

Then you’d really hate it in Europe, where the average sentence for a murder is 10 to 20 years.

It wasn't for decades until Gary Gilmore in the late 1970s.

It is the most humane method of execution there is currently. Very quick. Electric chair is the most cruel and unusual.

This is really the most fair option for someone who has been condemned to death, regardless of the moral dilemma of a death penalty existing at the hands of government.

I find it really interesting that they always report what the person had as a last meal (and that the last meal was the choice of the person being executed).

Is that a last gasp at compassion? I mean it's weird. Why is this always reported?

A ritual. It's basically just a way to assuage some guilt by the executioners and people guarding the condemned. Like, "Oh, I am being nice to this person before we kill them."

I have no opinion on death penalties, so don't crowd up the thread by responding to me if I sound anti-death-penalty. I'd prefer people handle their own problems in a ThunderDome type situation and if they were physically unable, then they could hire a proxy/advocate to duel in their place.

Yes. I think that's absurd.

Some people deserve the death penalty. Firing squad seems as good as any other method.

There’s a silver lining there. That’s means I can kill then myself and only face 10 years.

Honestly, I think this would put an end to school shooters, serial killers, mass murders and people raping and killing kids or women really fast. The current method is NOT working. I grew up in a state (Texas) with the death penalty and they air it so I remember seeing people go to sleep in the electric CB air or euthanasia method. The sign said” Don’t mess with Texas” and most didn’t. I am not opposed to this form of punishment however, I do not want it to become a way to exterminate “ undesirables” the way it was used in Nazi Germany.

I'd rather die by firing squad than ICU. At a certain age you ought to be able to request a firing squad. My wife recently lingered in an ICU for sixteen days before my kids decided enough was enough. I offered to kill us both, but she told me not to be silly. A live one in the ICU is worth a dozen cadavers in the medical school classroom.

Good riddance

I think it is barbaric that we allow people like this to live. We have a responsibility to reinforce basic moral standards like "don't beat your in-laws to death".
