We have this dishwasher as well. I love the 3rd rack feature. Agree with the poster above…this dishwasher is so quiet!

OP here - so basically I'm struggling between the Costco version of this dishwasher (405) and the Bosch 800 series. We had a repairman here for our clothing washer and he said he didn't recommend the Bosch because he has to pull the whole thing out to repair it and it's much more costly for the homeowner. He recommended anything made by Whirlpool (including Kitchenaid). Then I looked on Reddit and everyone HATES their Kitchenaid/Whirlpool and loves their Bosch. I am so torn!!

They’re mostly fine and you’ll probably hate something specific about whichever one you get. And if you get a lemon, that’s just bad luck.

My Bosch 800 really does smell though. It’s like slightly burning plastic, or something. Ozone, I don’t know. It doesn’t bother me much but I can see how some people could really hate it.

There's clearly something specifically wrong with the one you have. I don't think the burning smell is a problem across the entire product line.

I HATED my whirlpool and LOVE LOVE LOVE my 800 series Bosch! I’m on my 2nd ( two different houses) Got first one and fell in love and then moved to another place where kitchen had an awful whirlpool that finally broke. Did tons of research when it was time to replace and was even considering going way high end. But ended up getting another Bosch with 3rd rack have been so happy. Consumer report also gives it a high rating.

I usually use the short 60 min cycle ( but we also basically wash the dishes beforehand). I don’t want to deal with a stinky filter so that is our solution. The third rack is amazing for silverware and spatulas, small ramekins etc.

It makes me happy to use this appliance and anytime a friend says they need a replacement, it is my go to rec!

Anyone able to give a pro / con for kitchen aid vs Bosch?

I don’t know about now, but back in 2019, KitchenAid had the best drying feature on the market. Bosch was solid in all other features, but that was where KA had the advantage.

We got the KitchenAid mentioned above in 2022. I think it may be around $1000 installed now but I love it. No problems, very quiet, cleans so well.

Just beware of Bray and Scarff not what they once were for service once they get your money.

Bosch 800 is incredibly quiet. I need to use the extra dry setting to get it bone dry or need to use rinse aid. I didn’t have to use this for my previous dish washer and I always wonder what unnecessary chemicals are getting added to my food.

A lot of people report that but most say it goes away after a couple weeks

Yeah, it did get a lot better and my husband doesn’t even notice. I still like the dishwasher overall.

See, I just don’t get why I would care about the drying. But it’s clearly important to a lot of people! This is why it’s so tricky to buy appliances.

OP here. Yeah, I'm looking for personal recommendations, not paid "reviews". If I wanted that info, I could have googled it myself.

So sorry for trying to help.

Yes, that's literally what I said "anything made by Whirlpool (including Kitchenaid)"

OP, serious question: are you always a witch, or are you just having a bad day?

Because you either have to air dry or wipe off the wet dishes. It adds an extra step.

I just put them right into the cabinet.
