Please substantiate this claim.

Seriously? Schools hide this stuff since the SCOTUS devision. We all know it's true but can't substantiate. Didn't you get the letter from your college pledging ongoing commitment to diversity after SCOTUS? I got it from both my SLAC and law school, which. both have continued to play the URM and race game - it's just now in the essay, not in a box

In other words, you don't know sh*t.

+1. Pretty sure this is the same DEI-triggered troll that posts similar things about every university in the OOS discussions.

These post are so stupid.
It's Anonymous.. you aren't bragging or commiserating if it's Anonymous.
Please stop with this nonsense
People just post fake news you know.
It's truly pointless

Why?

My kid was waitlisted. We're counting this as a minor victory. I think their private has had 2 admits, 2 waitlists and 30 denials over the past 3-4 years.

Last year 10% of the OOS state waitlist was admitted. Woo hoo. Another lottery ticket purchased.

Kid just got rejected oos - top 1/600, 1500+ Sat, 4.0 uw, great not elite ECs, etc. And it was totally expected because oos UNC is notoriously difficult. My question is...why do oos kids want to go there so fervently? He applied because it is a great school and he didn't know how the rest of the decisions would play out (they are playing out well, so that's why he's not upset). But, to be honest, what drives the oos kids there when the in-state kids do not have the same kind of elite credentials that the oos kids do.

our top private gets 3-5 in every year, and most use it as an ivy/t10 backup if they are open to big schools, or a backup to UCB which is a little harder. UNC OOS is a match for anyone in our top5% with highest rigor. The other truly within range ivy-chasers use WashU, Vanderbilt, Amherst, Williams as their match-range schools for backups. UNC is bigger than UVA and not as academic, weird choice when UVA is a slam dunk for these kids and cheaper in state

How can every private on DCUM be "top"? Someone has to be at the bottom.

In the DMV, there is the “Big 3” which consists of about 10 different schools depending on who you ask. They are all Big 3 and also not Big 3. Good luck figuring it out.

First choice, fell in love with it but also accepted to HYP which was a surprise. Will have to revisit both.

Picking UNC over HYP was a dumb decision by a stubborn teenager that has impacted the rest of my life.

I hope your kid will make a better decision than I did.

+1 I had a T10 classmate who made the same decision, regretted it, then transferred UNC to the T10. It was a very different education comparison. The PP needs to pick HYP, or any T10, over UNC

DC "top" private has gone 3/28 at UNC over the past 3 years.

Again this was a zillion years ago. There are employers who will not hire from the ivys anymore, particularly HYP. And there are kids who will not attend HYP for principled reasons.
