OTOH, it could always be widened, to accommodate commuter traffic. |
While we’re at it, let’s reopen Rock Creek Park to cars! |
| If only there was an existing road through the park that would allow MD residents to get downtown without having to use Davenport or Connecticut. If only. |
| Its funny how even the people that want cars to rule the city don't want cars to rule their street. Its ironic enough that you would think people would go back to the drawing board on transportation. Everyone loves their own car, but hates everyone else's. |
It's even worse. Some of them were/are big proponents of the Connecticut Ave plan. They pushed for increasing cut through traffic and now want to cut it off. Maybe they should demand that Albemarle be re-opened and Connecticut returned to its pre-pandemic state instead. |
Albemarle is only closed for DC Water infrastructure construction. It isn't like the neighbors closed it. |
This is probably the best alternative plan. There’s plenty of available room to widen the street with the size of the front yards. 2 lanes each way, plus curb parking. |
We need those traffic planners over in east MoCo, where residential streets now have commuter traffic owing to Waze and dumb local planning shutting down streets for streateries. |
Yeah, make room for all those noble bicycle lanes too. |
Bingo. Those of us in Rollingwood who now live in a road ragey cut through neighborhood have borne the brunt just like Davenport residents. |
Good luck with the NPS. |
The engineering challenges/costs makes that too expensive for what you would get. I think they are being ridiculous but am not willing to spend limited funds just to spite them. |
This. |
|
The residents rejection of DDOT’s proposal to add speed humps tells you all you need to know.
This is not about safety. It’s about the residents wanting to turn their street into a gated community. The folks at DDOT no doubt no exactly what is going on. |
Same on Old Georgetown Road, our neighborhood and our street has become a major cut through since they decided to restrict one of the corridors into DC. Current Urban Planner, take a look at what your predecessors created, the corridor and wedges system, you've screwed it. Figure out another solution for bikes (why take away 2 lanes, make it one for bikes, and make the other reversible, into DC in the morning and out in the afternoons). Same for the bus lanes. You think you will force us all onto busses and bikes, but you won't. You'll make those of us who chose to spend our money on close in leafy suburbs leave, with our money. And MD is already in trouble with their tax base having tanked in 2008 and never recovered. People used to move here for proximity to DC, and schools. Since both of those are now tanked, and as soon as our youngest is done with school (we left MCPS a while ago, as it is on a fast and furious downward slide as well), we are leaving, along with our tax dollars. |
