It is a public street, irrespective of what it was designed for. I don't live too far from there and I agree with the OP. They knew what they were buying when the bought there. Turning it into a private enclave reeks of privilege. |
MD isn't much cheaper than DC, but otherwise you are correct. |
|
They should just make it one-way. That seems like the easiest thing to do.
The local traffic only rule seems impossible to enforce. How would you? You’d have to have a cop checking the address of everyone coming or going. Which by the way, isn’t legal - stopping and checking everyone’s licenses without any other probable cause for a stop. Just make it a one way street. Problem solved. Residents can drive around the block to get to their homes just like everyone else who lives on a one way street already does now now. They can too. |
| Davenport is an important access point to rock Creek park. You can't just close the road because residents don't like the traffic. What's so special about Davenport? Why can't every side street decide to limit traffic? IF residents don't like it, they always have the option of moving. |
| You expect cops to waste their time time pulling people over with MD plates on each road. That really is privilege at its worst. |

Urban planner again-
Most of these streets were designed anywhere from 30-100 years ago. Yes the population increase in MD does impact traffic. Buses, unless they are in a separated lane, are not that convenient for people coming from MD. Again, think of Covid times and how little traffic was in the street. Work from home, hybrid etc is the best solution long term. So for Davenport folks who voted for trump, watch more traffic with his day one exec order for return to work 5 days a week. |
| This is ridiculous, and I live on a street that people use to cut from River Road to Wisconsin all the time. You live on a public road. You don't get to declare it off-limits. |
|
Agreed. If Davenport can close their street, what is stopping people in other neighborhoods from doing the same? I use a lot of the side roads between Ct Ave and Reno. Will those also be closed to accommodate neighbors? Totally ridiculous request.
DDOT needs to open up the discussion to all residents of DC if they are serioiusly considering this plan. |
It just means Brandywine will get clogged. Doesn't solve the problem. |
No one on Davenport voted for Trump.

Public street= public use
Pound sand. |
| It the current rate, Grant Road through the park will be undrivable by the end of the winter. Problem solved. |
Was just going to say this. The cut-through going between Old Georgetown Rd and 355 during rush hour is inaccessible. Once cannot take Beech (near the Y) and then turn left to reach Pooks Hill Road (off of 355). Same in reverse. It has been this way since the 90's when I lived at the Promenade. |
Nope. Purposely reducing lanes on Commuter Arteries is the issue. Subtracting vehicle lane to add bus and/or bike lanes has caused major congestion and sends too many cars onto neighborhood streets. |

“We're only asking for a bunch in signs."
BS. You are asking to treat a public good like a private one for a handful of residents. |
