Montgomery and Arlington are also closed already, along with nearly every other district in the immediate area except for Howard County (two-hour delay). If DCPS opens, it's going to be dealing with a severe teacher shortage.

Those counties may need to rethink their statuses, as the federal government is open and those parents need to report to work.

Look y’all need to chill. I’ve lived in a middle state for over a 2 decades, and now here for the last 12. Every city, state, county, district struggles to clear snow and cancels/delays school. My middle state friends are going on snow day 3 tomorrow and their city is much more prepared for the 9” they got on SUNDAY.

Anyone who acts like “we walked in 6’ of snow when we were your age” is believing a false narrative. Kids will be okay missing another day of school. We have so many resources at our fingertips for instruction if that’s your worry (IXL….the INTERNET). If you have young ones and you need to work, you darn well should have thunk about contingency plans when having kids because LIFE.

To the PP; The problem isn’t the snow days themselves but rather the lack of cohesion in the far too numerous jurisdictions in the region. You’ve got the federal government open without delay and WMATA operating on a modified snow schedule. You’ve got employees for all school districts who live in a different district with their own kids. You have varying states and agencies responsible for plowing and clearing. You’ve got the park service, and multiple states making decisions that affect what is basically one region and when they all are different it’s chaotic and annoying.
There should be a unified regional DMV response to weather conditions like these instead of a grab bag of varying decisions.

We're not worried about all of what you're blathering about. We just want to know earlier is all. Mayor Bowser and her team know the conditions. Just announce for pete's sake.

The idea that the federal government needs to work with DCPS and MOCO to determine whether to open is a ridiculous idea. None of these entities have the same objective. Federal workers are adults who live all over the region. DCPS students live in a small area but have much different needs/challenges than adults.

Wtf is wrong with people like you? As a working parent, snow days are like an anti vacation. I'm waking up at 5 am to squeeze work hours in and then picking up again in the evening until midnight for some more hours
