Are Patagonia Puffers tacky?

Anonymous
Oh man, I'm so middle class that secondhand Patagonia is a major great find.

Fur coats are for REAL cold weather. Like in Siberia. I'm not joking, synthetics won't keep you as warm, everyone owns fur there. But it's unnecessary in the DMV.

Amen. There’s no bad weather, just badly dressed people.

Down is a word we use for baby feathers because it’s sounds nice
Leather is a word we use for animal skin
Fur is fur.
Think about what you’re putting on your body and at what expense. Way more relevant that what the person at the mall thinks of you.

Petroleum based fibers are killing entire species sooo…

Is LL Bean next on the tacky list?

Patagonia sells excellent value for money clothes with a lifetime warranty and a greater commitment to environmental protection than any other clothing brand I know. Other than the VC bros (who are all about signaling in their jobs) adopting it as their darling brand, what’s the problem?

You do what you want but I prefer to spend my virtue signaling on experiences.

I don’t think you understood my post.

I thought it would keep me warm in the freezing temperatures expected next week. But I went to the Galleria for a stroll and saw all these elegant women dressed in fur coats and sheepskin coats and wool coats. Lots of Mamont and Golden Goose puffers as well...

Is it better to get a nicer non-puffer coat for freezing temps?

All puffers are tacky. Get a nice leather coat or a wool pea coat. Puffer coats only make you look fat. No one wants to look fat. Being fat is REALLY bad.

No, I would rather not freezing my butt on Kilimanjaro.

And, also whether the invitations were engraved or just printed.

I just fixed your link so I could see the coat. I own one of those coats and it has been a game changer. When I walk my dog when it's cold, this is my go to coat.

No, prefer a puffer.

No. Moncler puffers are tacky because of the showmanship. Patagonia is a good brand that does good by the earth and its people, so not tacky.

Exactly. OP should have loudly proclaimed that she accidentally grabbed her nanny's/cleaner's coat on the way out the door. The Canada Goose wearers might snicker, but she'll have done a public service. The fur coat wearers will take note and go home and buy their staff better coats.

I honestly cannot tell if this, or the post it’s replying to, is being sarcastic.

In my upper middle class, highly educated, east coast suburb, Patagonia puffer jackets are the default outdoor jackets for everyday activity. The idea that someone would find them... tacky... is just ludicrous.

By the way, I remember when fur coats were considered so elegant and tasteful. My mother still has her mother's full length mink coat from 1960. Which is now worth less than what my grandfather paid for it. But they are amazingly warm, according to my mother. I understand why people don't wear fur any more but I do remember my grandmothers and all their friends looking so elegant in their fur coats.

I think fur is going to come back now because it’s more eco friendly.

OP here. I have been wearing my new puffer. It so SO WARM!!
