This is a sarcastic thread, right?

Is LL Bean next on the tacky list?

Patagonia sells excellent value for money clothes with a lifetime warranty and a greater commitment to environmental protection than any other clothing brand I know. Other than the VC bros (who are all about signaling in their jobs) adopting it as their darling brand, what’s the problem?

You do what you want but I prefer to spend my virtue signaling on experiences.

I just got back from skiing and took 3 coats- my ski jacket, a Patagonia equivalent puffer (Stio brand) for non ski activities, and a long down coat for evenings when it was very cold. Different coats for different purposes.
Three coats for 1 trip! Couldn’t you pare this down?

Especially if your decision to wear it is based solely on whether OTHER people think it is tacky

This really depends on what time you visited The Galleria, and whether there was a seated meal or just passed food.

So much this.

Wear what fits you and what you like. And stay warm!

Is being warm and dry tacky?

Patagonia puffers are not tacky. They are not super in-style at the moment, but there is a difference between the two.

Exactly. OP should have loudly proclaimed that she accidentally grabbed her nanny's/cleaner's coat on the way out the door. The Canada Goose wearers might snicker, but she'll have done a public service. The fur coat wearers will take note and go home and buy their staff better coats.

Any coat that supports animal cruelty is tacky.
Down is a word we use for baby feathers because it’s sounds nice
Leather is a word we use for animal skin
Fur is fur.
Think about what you’re putting on your body and at what expense. Way more relevant that what the person at the mall thinks of you.
