That's not entirely true. Blair is very desirable and it's part of the DCC. But yes, the other schools in the DCC and NEC are certainly way bumpier academically and environmentally compared to Blair.

Oldest graduated from Blair and it was a disaster. My kid had an IEP and was an average student in average classes and never touched the magnet. The quality of teaching was abysmal and the administration was a disaster. I am not a helicopter parent and basic requests were ignored to a point I had to contact supervisors.

My youngest is at Northwood and it is the exact opposite. Teachers have been so kind and responsive. This has far been the norm to the exception. Administrator are fantastic too. I emailed the principal for a very low level request and wasn’t expecting a response for several daya but he responded within the hour and took care of everything. If I had a time machine I would have sent my oldest to Northwood years ago.

Don’t believe the hype about schools with magnet programs if your kids aren’t in those programs.

FWIW I have a kid in a DCC ES. We plan on staying in the system, but we're not going to pretend it's awesome. We want awareness of MCPS's failures so they get their act together.

Correct. While I understand why some parents flee, those who stay must speak out about the reality and hold MCPS accountable. It's the only way the system gets better.

That’s not completely true, the magnet is desirable for kids on high level college track families or those who aspire to be. It not like they are excited to go to Blair and often hump across the county. The only other people who think highly of Blair are the people facing worse options in the DCC. Most of Blair is just your avg DCC school in a middling area. It’s desirable by comparison not in reality

The magnet is like an honors college housed within an otherwise completely mediocre state university. Nothing else about Blair is particularly desirable.
