which schools in the county have some bad reputation in terms of environment and recent news headlines?

The classism and racism that is prevalent at Wootton is not unique to Wootton. It comes with the territory when you have schools that are de facto segregated. Those racist and classist attitudes are also in existence at all of the W schools, because those attitudes are common in circles where wealth, privilege and whiteness are dominant.

I worked in the Wooton cluster for years and did not find it to be racist or classist in any way. Just the opposite, actually. I found families and students to be very open-minded.

That's not how Black students, parents and staff at Wootton feel.

Please. Channelling Jawando who's smearing hundreds of students because of what one or two kids did so he can be relevant isn't credible.

From what I heard - someone printed on a printer, someone wrote on a desk, someone yelled something from a car. Was it the same or different kids? Were they suspended? End of story.

If you want to do an article about a crappy school, start with Blair. Now that's a school you can write books about!

It's not just Jawando. Black parents and students spoke and shared their experience at the PTSA meeting last night.

You're toxic.

Toxic is overreacting to a xerox print, a scribble on a desk, and a juvenile kid yelling. This is an engineered, overblown farce.

Did the Jewish kids at Blair get this much attention? No, this was engineered and contrived.

Jawando got his news day. Let's see how much more overreaction there will be on this.

You need help. You're not safe to be around Black people. You dismiss and diminish their experiences.

Keep talking and spouting off. You have no idea, but it's fine.

I believe this is a form of racism in itself against the asian community. Jawando picked Wootton to make his grandstand, even though there are so many serious incidents around the county that are so so much worse. It was a calculated move. I believe this is why he doesn't support funding for Wootton's renovation or asbesdos removal. Could be wrong, but look at the facts. Are these incidents at Wootton (a printer, a scribble, a kid yelling from a car) the worst crimes committed at MCPS? Or do these thing happen DAILY at certain schools? Why wasn't he grandstanding when the kid at Blair was killed, or the ghost gun was found, or when the student was charged with attempted murder? I think he's evil, though and through. I also think this is all a parade to promote his career. It's my opinion. End of story.

There are far more anti Latino and anti Asian "micro aggressions" in that area. Oddly I have never heard complaints from either of those communities.

The students who are treated the most poorly in mcps are those with disabilities. It's not even close. Since mcps has no interest in fixing that issue, it seems disingenuous to pick and choose which bias is worthy of intervention

There are massive disgraceful racial inequities in special education.

Outrage much? It isn’t racism if the whole world isn’t fake pleasant to you. And just because you’re a minority doesn’t mean every less than perfect interaction is an aggression. Maybe the other person is a jerk or maybe, just maybe you’re annoying and worthy of being treated negatively. Same for your kids

Again, the anti-Black attitude that results in the anti-Black school climate and culture at Wootton is on full display.

Wootton parents BELIEVE Black kids who are targeted and called the n-word DESERVE it. This is what the Wootton BSU is calling out. This is what Principal Doug Nelson tolerates and perpetuates. This is why he had to go.

Folks, this person is an outsider woketrolling. Save your energy for real issues and don't let them sow division. The Wootton community will get past this.

For the benefit of trusting readers: No people werr targeted. In the cases at issue, the "targets" were a desk top and a stack of paper.

Blair is supposed to be the crown jewel of MCPS, but even there students are involved with a ghost gun, charged with attempted murder, racist hate incident, student killed - you name it.

Name just about any school in MCPS, and you'll be hard pressed to find a school that's safe and without serious violence, drugs, or other issues.

Blair is not the crown jewel of MCPS.
Blair Magnet, a small school within a school, is the diamond in the (very) rough.
It's at Blair specifically because Blair is a bad place, to boost Blair's stats.

Teachers rank the climate at Blair better than BCC

What type of choice is that or than misdirection to stabilize property values so people think they don’t have to go to their home school. All the desirable schools are not part of choice program.

That's not entirely true. Blair is very desirable and it's part of the DCC. But yes, the other schools in the DCC and NEC are certainly way bumpier academically and environmentally compared to Blair.

That’s not completely true, the magnet is desirable for kids on high level college track families or those who aspire to be. It not like they are excited to go to Blair and often hump across the county. The only other people who think highly of Blair are the people facing worse options in the DCC. Most of Blair is just your avg DCC school in a middling area. It’s desirable by comparison not in reality

It's the most desirable school not just in the county,
but in the damn whole state.
Your jealousy and envy are showing through your post.

You spelled Poolesville wrong.
