which schools in the county have some bad reputation in terms of environment and recent news headlines?

Eh..I could see that considering half of the Rockville cluster is in the Aspen Hill area (Barnsley, FV, and RCV).

Name just about any school in MCPS, and you'll be hard pressed to find a school that's safe and without serious violence, drugs, or other issues.

Blair is not the crown jewel of MCPS.
Blair Magnet, a small school within a school, is the diamond in the (very) rough.
It's at Blair specifically because Blair is a bad place, to boost Blair's stats.

Blair is not only the crown jewel of MCPS, it's the crown jewel of the whole state of Maryland.
I know the truth hurts and you're dying inside.

Not the previous poster but this poster is clearly trolling or oblivious. It not even top 5 in the county and most parents with means pay 7 figures to avoid it just like all the other east county schools. Sure some bus in from nicer areas for a program but they would go to Kennedy if that is where it was. They do that despite Blair not because of it. If it was desirable, Blair real estate wouldn’t be the cheapest school zone inside the beltway including most of Va. It’s only desirable to poor people and middle class who are afraid of PG and can’t do better. Look at the reputation for eastern middle school, that’s a large chunk of Blair’s general population… that is before them go to general pop.

Keep posting your fake bravado and pride, it shows you’re the one dying inside that just about everyone looks down on it.

Tell me which school in MD produces the most NMSFS? The most math Olympiads? Science Olympiads? Sciences Bowls? Most Intel/Regeneron scholars? Most ivy-bounds? The most decorated school in all of Maryland?

Before you can fix a problem you have to acknowledge that a problem exists. Poolesville is the best in MCPS overall, likely followed by Whitman, Wootton, Churchill, RM, etc. In fact, the last time SAT scores were released by MCPS, blacks at Poolesville had a higher score than blacks at Blair. As a magnet, Blair barely made rankings this year and as a school overall is in the low middle. The poster who was unhappy at RHS may want to consider moving to RM, which has higher rankings.

The reason why MCPS has to cheerlead Blair is because of all the money sunk into it's programs. If the truth was widely known, my guess is many parents would feel it's a waste of money compared to the bang-for-the-buck at other schools.

I think half of RHS parents are unhappy about the school I’ve heard, dunno why but I’ve seen negative feedback to be a bit more common than usual.

I've actually seen and heard the opposite and I live in the RHS area. Yes, some go private for middle or high school but plenty of involved parents with smart kids choose to send their kids to Rockville. And they really like it there, both the kids and the parents. I have a child starting there next year and based on the feedback I've heard, I have no reservations at all.

You mean the school where the principal has already dodged 2 lawsuits from parents?

I have a child starting there next year and based on the feedback I've heard, I have no reservations at all.

Hopefully Rockville gets a new principal…

Maybe call it North Bethesda since that's what everyone calls Rockville these days.

Trust that not everyone calls it North Bethesda. I have no idea why realtors and some small group of people are trying to make this a thing. It’s Rockville.

And those of us who live in the area around Rockville High School do not say we live in North Bethesda.

Yea, that area of Rockville is never called North Bethesda.

I don’t get why it’s called Rockville anyway, it’s not even in downtown Rockville and only zones in for suburbs/neighborhoods of the area.

Idiot. There's not a school that's called "Blair magnet HS". There's Blair HS. You graduate from Blair HS. The school is ranked as Blair HS.

Blair is the best!

Hmmhmmm..now give me a reason why?

Plenty was mentioned above.

I have a child starting there next year and based on the feedback I've heard, I have no reservations at all.

and hence, RM should be renamed back to Rockville High as it was once a long time ago….

It is within the Rockville city limits, as are Meadow Hall and Maryvale, two of its feeder elementary schools.

It doesn’t have to be in Downtown Rockville to be called Rockville, just like it doesn't have to be in downtown Silver Spring to be called Silver Spring.

Why are people talking about renaming Rockville HS, which is not even under consideration?

Isn't it obvious with the recent news which school, OP?

Parent of 2 meadow hall kids, we stick to more of the Aspen Hill community instead of Rockville…
