It falls under the guise of ALDC. |

My kid is multi-racial (Hispanic & AA). Earned NMSF and National Hispanic Recognition and National AA recognition. PSAT 1500, SAT 1500. GPA 4.3
Applied to a range of schools from Harvard to Alabama. Chasing merit full rides. I was surprised by how many apps or portal supplements included questions about race or asked about being Hispanic. |
Apparently, as long as you're not black, it's all good to DCUMers. |
|
By no means am I an expert but even I know that if you are an URM you should bring it up in your application. Whether it helps or not is debatable and no one this forum knows for sure one way or another.
|
No. The same essay should garner the same credit if it is written by a sikh in the wake of 9/11 or an east asian during the anti-asian covid stuff. It's not the race itself that confers the benefit. This has shifted the discussion from wealthy black kids to less affluent black kids. |
WTF are you talking about? The PP is distinguishing hispanic ethnicity from race not saying that race was not asked about. |
It absolutely helps. It helps more than it is supposed to but much less than it used to. I don't know if we will ever get to a level playing field but i suspect that once the top schools go test required, we will see a moderate amount of affirmative action. If the SAT score differentials remain high the lawsuits will continue. |
BS. My URM kid with a 1530 SAT and top honors/ECs/gpa disagrees with you. |
Agree but on these threads it’s Asian Americans who chime in. |
FFS the fact that a greater number of one group scored at a certain level is not relevant when comparing individuals. A first generation ESOL student with a 1530 is being compared to a legacy Mayflower student with a 1530. Why does any care at all that a great number of immigrant ESOL students score much lower? They aren't the ones Harvard is evaluating for admission |
100%. The second any thread is specifically about asians in college, a whole litany of people begin making racist arguments against black people. |
+1. This. The game has just moved to the essay section. OP needs a new advisor is tge advisor doesn't understand this. |
Yep. Maybe one troll or two. |
| OP is a troll... either that or their kid has been a senior for the past 3 years. They keep posting the same scenario |
agree. its not many. just one crazy lonely mom who thinks her kid(s) got "screwed" in admissions years ago. |
