But that’s not the important part. This is. She was lucky. Kids with somewhat higher GPAs and great EC and test scores from her class were denied in ED. Kids with much higher stats were denied in RD. Not put on the WL. Denied. Hard work gets you serious consideration, but sometimes the yeses and nos are just luck. Like an AO connecting with something in your file. My DD is amazing, but her yes had a big component of luck. And the kids who were denied at WM ED ended up in great places for them and (including one at UVA, a couple VT and JMU, some SLACs…). And they love where they needed up and are doing really well.

My other kid went through RD and got the Nos. And it sucked. And it felt personal to me. Maybe more to me than my kid. How could these school not see how amazing my kid was? How could any school not want him? But he also ended up in the right school for him, and I now think the Nos did him a favor, because they would have been as good for him as where he ultimately went.

If your kid is accepted, congratulations and welcome to the Tribe! WM is a special place and I hope your kid is as happy as mine has been.

If your kid is not accepted, it just means there were too many qualified kids for too few spots. It does not mean that your kid isn’t and amazing, talented, and hardworking as kids who were accepted. It definitely does not mean that they will not go on to a great college and have an amazing experience.

If your kid is offered a WL spot, which comes with guaranteed spring admission if your kid studies abroad of goes to a CC for a semester, strongly it. Especially if your kid is sold on WM. It has become an increasingly popular option and each year there is a larger cohort of kids who go this route. WM does well with orientation for spring admits and DD is friends with a couple kids who went that route and have done very well. By sophomore year, no one can tell the difference between fall admits and spring admits. Especially kids who do the overseas option because they come in with friends from that program.

This thread inspired me to see if I still had the clever email they sent our DC when they got in ED many years ago. Yep, still got it. Good luck to all - it is a special school and our DC (who's in PhD program now) wouldn't have been happier anywhere else. Hope you hear soon.

Do you remember if this was sent to prompt kids to check their portal, or was there a separate email that directing them to check and this email came after? Just wondering what it means if the email announcing decisions are available does not say "good things" in the subject line.

I think they just sent emails then, but this was almost 10 years ago so things might have changed?

My DD got in ED1 last year and I think the email and Instagram messages just told all the applicants to check their portals. I wouldn’t read too much into how it’s phrased. Good luck!

Okay. But it’s now an outlier because in the last decade they have always released between the 5th and 9th.

Thanksgiving fell much earlier the last two years, Nov 23rd and 24th. Late Thanksgiving this year had shifted December schedules.

Be patient, even though it’s hard. They’ve been doing this for hundreds of years and will get the word out when the school is ready!
