uhhh nah. research has been done in this area and the "official" ivy-plus schools are the ones that show a benefit at the top of certain fields only. The ivy plus schools are all ivy and Stanford MIT Duke Chicago. True elite are these 12. Correlate world rankings and usn before they went insane with factors that are more about diversity than talent, and the same 12 pop up for almost everything. benefits in all top sectors of career and grad/professional school favoritism. Elite but not most elite includes JHU Northwestern Caltech WashU Gtown ND Rice Vanderbilt Berkeley UCLA Williams Amherst Swarthmore. That is T25 overall including the top 4 LACs. |
I think there are no schools that should be in the t25 that are not in this post. You got them all. |
I don't think Cornell or Chicago belongs on the top elite list. I know many kids who go to Cornell from NYC that are fairly average and Chicago takes many average kids from private schools that apply ED1. |
GOOD LIST. concur! |
|
Elite: Ivies, Stanford, MIT, Hopkins, Duke. Period hard stop.
Very, very good: Georgetown, UChicago, Slacs Williams, Pomona Swarthmore Very Good: U Michigan, Notre Dame, UVA |
One of these things is not like the others... |
|
There are about 25
For better or worse, Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford, and MIT will always be regarded as the top 5. Then it's Duke, Penn, Columbia, Northwestern, Vanderbilt, Cornell, Dartmouth, Rice, Brown, CalTech, Johns Hopkins, Chicago, Dartmouth, Berkeley, West Point, Annapolis, Notre Dame, and Williams. I think that's about it for genuine "elite." Georgetown, Michigan, UCLA, Emory, Swarthmore, WashU, Pomona, Carnegie Mellon, and Bowdoin would be the next tier. But ultimately, the best school is the best fit for each kid. |

Emory? CMU? Pomona? He said top 4 LACs but only 3 are there. |
West Point, and Annapolis are not elite. Certainly not more than Georgetown, Emory, WashU... |
+1 |
CMU, Emory, UVA, Umich are T25. USC and UNC were recently T25. Pomona is T4 LAC ...? |
Pomona has traditionally been in the top 4 lacs. It is the most competitive LAC to get into. |
