How many elite/top schools are there?

Having a discussion with my mother and DH. He says 50, Mother says 65, I say about 30. What do yall think?

I think your family needs to get a better hobby

HYPSM or top 1000 depending on which school your kid went.

Depends on the student not the school. If someone is motivated enough, they can get an “elite” education at hundreds of schools.

These kinds of questions are so tiresome

Maybe play monopoly instead?

Forbes T70 minus really obvious outliers like Cal Poly SLO

HYPSM, Upenn, Columbia, Dartmouth, Brown, Cornell, Duke, JHU, Caltech, Northwestern, UCHICAGO, Williams, Amherst, Swarthmore, Pomona, Vanderbilt, Rice, Emory, Georgetown, Notre Dame, WashU, CMU, UCB, UCLA, Umich, UVA, Wellesley
The last 3 in Italics are borderline. So about 30ish.

I feel sorry for you.

Just a bad discussion especially if your kid(s) were nearby. That's how you and the family end up with unreasonable expectations....not sure how old your kids are but don't do it - let your kids pick what's based on their abilities and fit at the time.

I'd remove the italics from the 1st two, and add NYU (albeit italicized, probably).

If you add NYU you would have to add USC and UNC to keep it fair. And they dilute it.
