They need to understand the history and legacy of slavery in the US, and the level of discrimination that still exists towards Black Americans. If they hate DEI so much, maybe they should go to another country. |
Maybe you should stop with your anti-Asian bias. The US is so racist it elected a black president ... twice! You just can't stand the fact that much of what the left promulgates wrt DEI, equity and all of the other mumbo jumbo has gaping flaws. The fact that Asians have more wealth than even white people entirely blows up the narrative of white supremacy and oppression. At the end of the day, 95% of it comes down to personal responsibility these. That's just not palatable though for progressives. |
Yup, I saw that at shook my head. My fellow Asians failed to see how they are treated like pawns for anti-AA proponents on the right. |
Harris talked about working family issues. She didn’t talk about DEI. she didn’t talk about her identity. Like not at all. |
I work with a lot of SE Asians. Most can't vote because they aren't citizens, but the men definitely supported Trump over Harris. My read on this group (economists mostly from upper class Indian families or the equivalent in other SE Asian countries) is that these men don't find Trump's paternalism, misogyny, or racism objectionable because they are fairly similar and come from a culture there that's the norm.
I don't think this is universal to SE Asians but it's very true among the group I know well. The women are more liberal as a group but not as liberal as the assimilated Asian Americans I know. I would expect majority-Asian districts to have a much higher percentage of recent Asian immigrants and naturalized citizens (as opposed to native citizens). I think this could heavily influence attitudes towards a character like Trump. |
Asians are socially conservative, the ultra left turn of Democratic Party didn’t sit well with them.
Asians get hurt the most by DEI politics, this is a fact. Asians are fiscally conservative and don’t like their money being taken by more taxes or inflation. Asians got sick of being taken for granted by the Democrats who only prioritize Blacks and Latinos. I could go on and on but there are the main reasons. Asians are a small minority though so I don’t think their numbers matter, that’s why Democrats didn’t care much for them. |
Just no. SE Asia elected first woman president in 1960, after that there have been 4 women Presidents in all SE Asian countries. Now, show me the states for Europe and Americas. “Upper Class” Indians are NOT okay with patriarchy, misogyny and racism. That in itself is a racist and gross statement. |
^stats not states |
Asian Americans are approximately 6% of US population and hardly sway elections by themselves. |
The Chinese in particular were very discriminated against in the 1880s. They weren't allowed to testify in court cases in California (like Blacks and Native Americans), so there was a lot of violence against the Chinese that went unaccounted for. They weren't allowed to own mines. They were essentially forced labor to build the railroad and made to do the most dangerous jobs, so many died. They were so hated they're the first group that Congress specifically barred from being allowed to immigrate. From 1882 to 1943 they were prohibited from immigrating. Did they have to overcome slavery? No. Were they able to overcome a lot in a relatively short period of time (1943 to 2024)? Yes. So maybe instead of saying they need to understand and respect the legacy, we should all take note that whatever they're doing works from a societal standpoint. |
welp, looks like they don't need to since Americans voted in Trump. You might want to ponder why so many Asians, Hispanics, Blacks did not support Harris. I'm not against DEI, per se, but the left got way too left on the issue. My spouse is a liberal, and even they said the left was going too far left. We both voted for Harris. |
There are a lot of people caught up in grievance politics, and outcome measures to them are surprisingly less relevant than having the right posturing. |
+1 There was a SCOTUS case brought by a Chinese American to define what the 14th amendment meant. A Chinese American born was coming back into the country, and border officials said he wasn't a real American even though he was born in the US to immigrant parents who were here legally. |
Unfortunately, the presidential nominee takes on the ideals of the party, and people saw how Dem were going to far left. |
