I have a current senior who is planning to continue performing in college, and I've had some visibility on the trajectories of kids who have gone to college over the past three years since the theater kids are pretty close knit and all follow each other on Instagram. If there are maybe 15 seniors per year who are really serious about performance (voice and dance outside of school, pre-professional theater companies, etc), I'd say most remain engaged in theater in some way. Of those, maybe 5 apply directly to conservatories to do BFAs, and another 5 major or double major in theater within a brodader university, and there others might still do club theater. Of the crew kids, a handful each year go onto programs directly related to technical theater. Emerson and BU are common choices for those kids. |
Or they get a minor. That's my kid's plan. |
Absolutely. Off the top of my head, Ato Blankson-Wood, a Blake graduate from the early 2000s, was most recently in Cabaret. |
Woo hoo, one, at least! Is there some sort of pipeline?? |
That is because Forest Oak lets the PE department somehow run the school. They dictate who gets classes. My kid was in dance last year and absolutely loved it, but PE was holding the dance studio hostage, so they had class in a tiny room. Dance ended up getting cut along with Family and Consumer Sciences. |

Saw Mamma Mia today at Sherwood. Huge crowd, really intricate sets, and two insanely talented female leads.
The director came out on stage after curtain calls since it was the end of the run to recognize seniors and thank folks. Seems like a massive amount of community support and passion up there for theatre. |
Myles Frost went to Wootton. He won a Tony. https://www.mymcmedia.org/tony-award-winning-actor-frost-graduates-from-bowie-state/ |
I recommend folks ask some Theatre and Band Directors about the Fine Arts budget. |
I heard great things about Mama Mia this year. Well done, Sherwood kids. |

Some Kennedy feeder middles do and some don't. Odessa Shannon does not. I belive the Middle school magnet consortium schools all do, though.
But regarding Kennedy, it's like the powers that be think why do the poorest kids in the county need luxuries like arts and theater? |
Luxuries?? Try necessities, more than ever!!!! |
| Do all HS have theater/drama? |
| Do any of the high schools have theatre productions you recommend watching this spring? |
| Not QO. It was bad. |
Which one was it? |
