MCPS -- Canvas Is Messed Up

Mine stopped working last week. I was using the blue canvas parent app. I used the instructions in parent vue, downloaded the red canvas student app and matched it with my profile using the QR code and everything is now working. As far as I know, it's working for my high schooler as well and he uses his login.

I agree it's frustrating and instructions aren't ideal. If there is MCPS IT to help, you should reach out.

We are new to MCPS. Our kid is in K. I feel like I have missed something. What would I be able to see on Canvas if it was working properly? Is there something on there I should be monitoring? I've tried to follow the directions here but have not had success.

It is working correctly. There's nothing to see for K anyway. It won't get much use until MS.

Has anyone here set up a parent account on either Canvas Parent or Canvas Student, and is able to see more than one student in their parent account?

That didn’t help at all. Don’t waste your time.

I couldn’t access my kid’s account last week but my parent volunteer account has remained available. Then my kid’s account came back. Today it is unavailable again. They’re clearly working on something. It’s annoying but don’t waste your time on silly advice like I did.

Something is going on and in some level we’ve given up even trusting ParentVue or Canvas. We have no true idea how are kids are doing until Interim and Report Cards because so much of what Canvas and ParentVue show is incorrect, not reflecting properly, not update, etc. And with kids having group assignments it’s even worse. We’ve just told our kids to go to their teacher to get a true printout of what is there, what is missing, and actual grades.

If you are using a browser extension for security/privacy, disabling it temporarily might allow Canvas to work. It did for me.

That's a terrible approach, though, and it shouldn't rely on web code that needs functionality that might be considered intrusive.
