MCPS -- Canvas Is Messed Up

Go to Parentvue on web, login and read instructions on how to use Canvas app. Mine stopped working but now instructions say to use Canvas student app and where to find QR code to login. I downloaded that app rather than the canvas parent app and everything works fine now.

Good for you, but I don't want to use my child's login info to use Canvas.

It’s not your child’s login, read the instructions. It’s the student app with parent credentials. The instructions are written out for you within parent vue.

We're supposed to use the red Canvas Student app, not the blue Canvas Parent app, for parent login?

No you can use either if you have credentials for both. It doesn't matter. They both work fine.

On the step that is missing a picture, scroll all the way down in Classroom to find the red Canvas button/link

When you finish, you'll be logged in to canvas as a parent, but if you use red Canvas student, your kid's saved logins will have been silently removed, so you'll need to log in as your kid again somewhere to get the QR code to add their info to your own account.

Yes, this process is insane.

For my kids, the "Pair with Observer' button doesn't exist.

One of my kids was already magically added to my parent account, but the other wasn't.

So, the end result is:

Have to log in as kid to see kid's data.

Canvas is a miserable failure.


Now I understand why the teachers are unable to manage student documents and communicate effectively.

I was already using Canvas student app. It too is blank. If I log online with students credentials I can see things.

MCPS has disabled the Pair with Observer feature.

The instructions don't work.

It's also incredibly slow, and there is no bulk way to clear out dozens of notifications from past years, and no way remove the modules from stuck classes from past year's at different schools!

In Canvas Parent, it only shows one of my students, but my Inbox only shows messages from my OTHER student. And those messages are undeletable messages going back 5 years!
