Only in DCUM would people say don't send in a B.

If a school is going to reject you over an A-, are you really wanting your kid to suffer through that kind of pressure in college?

for ED
Brown, Tufts, Amherst
ask for 1Q grades

It would be super helpful if folks could add here other schools requiring Q1 grades - the portals and websites can be pretty vague. Happy to send, but don’t want to ruffle any feathers by affirmatively sending something they don’t want.

It seems like mostly private schools (adding in BU and Richmond). I'll tell my DC to keep an eye out, but they mainly stuck with public schools.

Our school (test in public in NY) automatically sends Q1 grades unless you request an exception. DS got A+/A/A/A/A- .We didn't sweat the A-.

Dartmouth asks for first quarter. They asked the school counselor directly.

My kid said their portals didn’t seem to ask for Q1 (UVA, UMD, UMich, Case, Emory) and i wanted to backstop so I checked the school websites… doesn’t look like they want Q1… anyone read it differently? Our school doesn’t auto send so would need to arrange for it.

Doesn’t the Common App require the applicant to indicate a grade or “In Progress” for senior year classes?

If a kid is applying in late Dec or into Jan / Feb and indicates “in progress” for first semester grades or first and second quarter grades (for quarter system schools), when grades should already be released and known, wouldn’t that be a huge red flag for admissions?

Our school sends them automatically.

Is this a private school? I can't see ours doing that.

Our kid applied to one school ED, two schools EA, and one RD but they will probably act soon because it was a safety. The ED and one of the EAs asked for 1st quarter grades on their portals so kid uploaded them. We didn't send anything to other schools. Looks like all schools with active applications will get mid-year report via Naviance.
