Is anyone sending in first quarter grades?

Anonymous
I have been told they will look at any "new" information as long as it was submitted by the actual deadline (e.g., Nov 1). If it's submitted after that deadline, there's no guarantee they'll see it.

OP here. It would be nice if DC had straight As! Also, the school does not do pluses and minuses.

I will get DC to double check all their portals and only submit where required.

Is it recommended to send with a couple A-???

But if your HS autosends? Do schools that don’t require 1st quarter grades for ED/EA just disregard? Or can they impact the decision? Seems a little unfair to penalize some students whose schools autosend when others only send the ones with straight As.

our auto sends too. but we've been told they will ignore.

Told by an AO? Or your child's counselor?

by private counselor.

Our public in FCPS will not send first quarter grades unless school requests. No student requests. The auto send mid year grades.

My MCPS kid has a 3.98, only B was 1st semester freshman year. Full IB diploma student, also taking AP Stats senior year. Current WGPA is 4.89.

Looking like 1st quarter senior year will also be 4.0. Worth sending grades to the EA schools? Not even sure the counselor will do this if not specifically requested by the schools?

Some private CC suggest students send an email to their regional admissions officer with a screenshot of the quarter grades if their high school will not send without a request from the college.

The only school on DCs list that seems to want or require Q1 grades is Univ of Richmond.

Has anyone seen an ED or EA flagship that wants or requires Q1 grades? Some of the portals seem a bit vague.

Anonymous wrote:My kid just applied ED to one colllege and EA to three colleges. ALL of them have emailed my child to sign into a portal that shows what's left before an application is complete-- and all of them have first quarter grades on the checklist. Maybe you can wait to see if a college asks for the grades, but you probably do take a risk that the college considers it an incomplete application and doesn't even review the application.

My child is at a very top private that is absolutely clear that they will send out first quarter grades.

And really, one B in stats isn't going to kill your child's chances. But not sending in grades at all could lead admissions to think either the application is incomplete, or that the first quarter grades are being hidden because they are a disaster (and one B is definitely not a disaster).

Totally disagree with this advice. A senior year B grade WILL stick in an AO’s mind and can easily be the cause for being declined. This is especially true in Stats if the major is business.

Don’t send. Admissions officers deal with what’s in front of them and don’t have time to second guess on matters that haven’t been presented to them (“I wonder why they didn’t send in their first quarter grades..” for example)

That advice about sending them in without being asked sounds suspect.

What schools have actually asked for them?

Duke requires them for ED, as do some others.

Who else?

I dont think I'd send ANYTHING unless school specifically requests. Bogged down AOs don't want to go through anything more than necessary.

This made me tell DD to check and turns out she had a message in her Richmond portal to upload first quarter grades. Thanks PP!
