Michael Moore expects large female turnout on Abortion

Anonymous
Every woman I know is (work colleagues and parents in my kids' school community) is voting for Harris. We're all educated and informed on issues; disinformation doesn't impact us and we don't subscribe to conspiracy theories.

We have daughters and sons, and don't want their reproductive health (or repro health of their partners) to be compromised.

In the 2022 Midterms (1) Republicans won the House then, (2) Trump the leading cadidate *was not* on the ballot to help down ballot races he brings lots of R. voters to elections, (3) strict abortion measures were rolled back in many states since then.

So what am I missing here?

You're missing that the 2022 election has to be looked at in context; expected gains for Republicans were much higher than they got. Democrats lost a below average number of seats for the president's party, especially given the economic situation at the time, and they won independent voters which is pretty rare for the party in the White House. It's thought, I think probably correctly, that abortion drove a lot of that overperformance.

None of which is the same as saying that all women are single issue abortion voters or that Democrats are never going to lose an election in which women turn out because of abortion; the effect is more subtle than that.

You are far too sane to be posting on DCUM

Well, of course when I want to know what women are thinking, I ask a fat old male video maker.

What do you mean, he applauds himself for doing so

He also twists himself in pretzels trying to say "everybody wanted it to go back to the States" which is utter hogwash. Nobody wanted it to go back to the States. He destroyed women's rights and he's going to pay and he knows it.

It’s a business decision to tell people you’re supporting Kamala. You want to be invited to cocktail parties and wine-soaked brunches.

But in the voting booth, and on his list of supporters so he knows you’re a friend? President Trump all the way.

The sad thing is that Harris can't do squat about abortion, while Trump can't do squat about the economy (and that's the best case - it's quite likely his tariffs will tank it). He does have the power to do something about the border - his executive orders will reduce the number or migrants simply by making the US an unappealing destination - but as we learned in 2021 that all goes out the window once he leaves office. If he truly wants a border solution that outlasts him he'll need to work with Congress, something he's incapable of doing.

I have decided to lie to all my circles about voting for Trump. I would be a pariah if I admitted it.

Whatever you need to tell yourself to cope.

Trump's tariffs will absolutely tank the economy.
Trump's tax proposal will cost thousands of dollars to most American households.
Trump pulling out of NATO will cause a European war, and the US will suffer the follow on economic fallout.
Trump told the GOP not to pass the border bill, which would have given the White House the tools to deal with the border.

Perhaps you should gain some self awareness and think about why all of these people you presumably respect and trust their judgement would be horrified you're voting for a convicted felon who partied with Jeffrey Epstein and was found to be a rapist in a court of law.

“ I’m not worthy of full rights and bodily autonomy. Let stronger and smarter men be the steward of what is best for me and my daughters.”

I'm smart enough to use appropriate birth control, choose a mature and caring partner who respects me and our children, and use my God-given brains wisely. No one else is my steward. Speak for yourself.

Clearly not all that smart.

You're the one who mentioned the need for a steward.

I think Michael Moore is a clown but the republicans barely won the house in 2022. The much-ballyhooed red wave never materialized. That’s what you’re missing.

+1 Also in Pennsylvania and Michigan where abortion was the #1 issue for midterm voters Democrats absolutely dominated.

It was the #1 issue all over, including in this election. Anyone who says otherwise is trying to convince you (or themselves). Dobbs is destroying the Republicans. Rightly so.

- an independent who left the Republican party long before Dobbs but still cannot believe they actually did it and thought it would be good

If you believed in Russia gate, thought Biden’s laptop was a fake or believed Covid would never possibly have come from a lab, you believe in conspiracy theories.
