| My kids scouts/bsa troop meets TOOO much, and its a mess because none of the parents will get involved so it just feels like a giant feral playdate every single week |
| Girl Scout Leader here. We meet at least monthly now that the girls are in high school, but depending on what events or service activities they are planning, we might meet more frequently, with several extra online sessions or another in-person meeting thrown in. At this level of scouting, the girls are supposed to be planning the meetings and leading as much as possible, so it isn’t just dependent on the leader’s bandwidth. That said, the adults are still hosting the in-person meetings and providing supervision/guidance, we do need a certain number of adults to operate. There are many other activities, Journeys (which consist of several badges and a “take action” project), Higher Awards, service projects, camp-outs, and council events that girls can get involved in on their own if desired. Girl Scouts is what you make of it! |
Thank you chat GPT
We all know this, we are just trying to explain to #boymom over there that Boy Scouts/BSA/whatever it's called this week is not the only scouting organization out there. She seems to think "Scouts" are just BSA and they're not. I hope your organization figures out its identity soon, it must be very confusing for the children. |
1. The organization you are discussing here is actually indeed now called "Scouting America," with the rebrand already ongoing and the last stage of it happening in February 2025. It includes Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA, Venturers, Explorers, Sea Scouts, and STEM Scouts. All types and levels can and do involve girls/women. 2. Girl Scouts is a different and separate organization. |
| Three times a month and there are hikes every month as well. This month we did 3 meetings. One was at a farm and also met for hiking one weekend, cub scouts day one Saturday ( located at a camp ground.. day of sports, fishing, BB guns) and we did two Halloween parades this week! |
I’m in both organizations and I’m referring to the first one as the Organization Formerly Known As. Everyone in our troop is still calling it Boy Scouts. |
| We do 1x per month for girl scouts |
|
My son's group meet a couple of times a month.
I'm starting a new Girl Scouts troop soon and plan to start off once a month until we get our footing. I do not have any GS previous experience, my daughter will be a Daisy. |
| I’m a junior troop co-leader, we have met once a month since daisies and have occasional extra weekend events or camping trips. It works well for our troop, since we have very few parent volunteers for anything, and a lot of the girls are over scheduled. We will have a few more meetings overall now that they are working on take action and bronze awards. But everyone seems happy with a low-key troop. |
I have kids in both. #1 is way more active than #2. I think it has to do with different philosophies of leadership (for both adults and kids), as well as unit personalities. As long as they're thriving it's fine with me. |
Good luck! Be sure to connect with your Service Unit as they will plan activities through the year and also connect you with experienced troop leaders who will be happy to give you ideas for meetings and activities, perhaps hand down supplies or even find you and older girl to help out at meetings. We all love Daisies! |
| Our Scouts BSA all-girl troop has been meeting twice each month on Saturdays from 10 to Noon since 2019. It works crazy-great as it has very few conflicts. Girls are wide open on Saturday mornings and it does not conflict with school. |
Everyone knows Girl Scouts is a separate organization. What we are trying to do is put you people in your place. There are multiple scouting organizations, Boy Scouts keeps changing its name every week because it is ACTIVELY trying to take girls away from Girl Scouts and like some evil corporation, take over any type of scouting all over the country. It's ok to have multiple scouting organizations, I don't know why yours keeps changing its name, but you are NOT the only scouting organization in the USA. Girl Scouts is a global organization. |
You are very lucky to have a group of girls that don't play sports!! Saturday mornings are fully booked for us, I can't even imagine trying to plan any sort of extracurricular then, LOL! |
YES, but please don't call it plain old Scouting. That is misleading. Pick a name and stick with it!!!! |
