| When my son was in Cub Scouts, the pack met monthly, his den also met monthly, there was a hike a month, a service project or other activity like Pinewood Derby every couple of months, and campouts twice a year. He's in a BSA Troop now, and they meet weekly, have a monthly campout, and have frequent service projects and other activities. No one does everything. Several of our scouts have sports, theater, and other commitments part of the year, for example. |
| I'm a Daisy leader. We have one regular meeting a month and then one optional outing. Most of the girls are in K though and overscheduled as it is- we want this to be ow pressure and fun. |
|
I'm a girl scout leader. We have meetings twice a month and at least one other activity during the month, sometimes 2.
Now that my kids are older (cadettes - middle school) we also meet in small groups to work on higher awards or specific pins. |
This is key. At the older levels, everyone is really busy and it's hard to coordinate weekends that everyone is free. So as a Troop, we offer a bunch of activities (monthly campouts, service projects, and just fun stuff like rock climbing or caving), but nobody is expected to do everything. We assume some kids will join the campout in September, others will join in October, etc. Generally, those who are more active will advance faster, and that's fine. We have some who progress through the ranks by the time they're 14, others take right up to the days before their 18th birthday. |
| Our Girl Scouts troop meets twice a month. Once as formal troop mtg and once as outing for community service and/or outdoor/nature focused. Girls also share when they do council events or park sponsored events. Itโs a great mix and the overall Service Unit hosts about quarterly events to bring everyone together. Always is better when others can help out. Overall has been awesome experience for our girls and family. |
| Cub scouts were once a week during the weekend then a weekend activity once a month. |
| As far as any scouting program goes if you are just dropping off and picking up you have no right to complain about anything. ๐ It's a lot on the leaders and with more and more parents leaning out it is not surprising the few volunteers have to set more boundaries about what they can do for the troops. |

Cubs was couple times a month
Scouts is every week |
| Girl Scouts - in early grades, one meeting a month and one activity a month. In later grades, one meeting or activity a month and camping at least two weekends a year (plus some of them do Girl Scout summer camps). All of the girls are busy with sports and other activities, so once a month is about all they can handle. |
it is NOT called "Scouting". Just because your organization changes its name every year and happened to spend millions purchasing scouting.org doesn't mean that you can take over the term scouting. Girl Scouts are also Scouts. |
It is now called Scouts BSA. |
|
There's "Scouts BSA" (formerly Boy Scouts of America) and there's "Girl Scouts of the USA"
Scouts BSA is part of the WOSM. World Organization of the Scout Movement. Girl Scouts of the USA is part of WAGGS. World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts. Scouts BSA now allows girls as well as boys. Girl Scouts of the USA is still girls only. Scouts BSA Cub Scout packs typically will meet one a month, with grade level dens (bear, wolf etc.) typically meeting weekly. Scouts BSA troops (grade 6+) typically meet weekly. Girl Scouts of the USA grade level (or multi grade level. Daisy, Brownie, Junior, etc) troop meetings are very leader driven - in this area they tend to meet every other week, but it really depends on what the leaders feel they can handle. |
| In Mclean: Our cubscout den meets 1x a month, pack meets 1x a month + 1 hike a month and/or camping trip. Older daughter is in Scouting America: Meets weekly + 1 camping trip per month. |
My DH is a Cub Scout Den leader and the crap heโs had to take over the years from crazy type-A parents has been ridiculous. There are some real A-holes out there. |
| My GS troop always met once per month with typically one other activity per month (camping, a field trip, thinking day, theater, etc.). I work full time and could not plan a high quality meeting every week. And I think the girls would have been bored with that. |
