My daughter is in Girl Scouts and they meet about twice per month. Cub Scouts usually met 3-4x per month. The biggest difference I see is that Cub Scouts had entire pack meetings monthly and often an all pack outing (pinewood derby, hiking, camping) in addition to the grade level meetings and outings.
How often do your scouts meet? |
| We have a Daisy/Brownie troop and meet twice a month. That is all my co-leader and I can handle! |
| Twice a month now. We did more than that before but it burned out our leader. |
| When DD was a Daisy and brownie, twice a month. Now as a Junior, once a month. (That doesn’t count special outings.) |
| Once a month for our scouts. As a leader, I don’t have bandwidth to plan anything else. If someone wanted to take the initiative to plan more activities, I’d be open to that. |
| Twice a month during the week and the occasional extra weekend. |
| Once a month- would be happy if it were 2x/month. |
That's the model for Boy Scouts , now called Scouting. There's a lot to learn and accomplish. Twice a month doesn't cut it. |
| Depends on the troop/den. You can get active and volunteer to be a leader and have more meetings if you want. |
|
2x/month for Girl Scouts, alternating badge/award work and "field trips" which could be museums, camping, speaker visits, community service, etc..
My son's BSA troop meets weekly but the meetings are mostly dodge-ball and things like 'chess' or 'olympics'. They don't do any badge work at meetings and very little advancement work. It's basically social time. |
| Our BSA girls troop meets weekly, to work on advancement and plan campouts. They camp or have another trip once a month. |
Is BSA for older kids since cub scouts ends in 5th grade? |
Yes. Cub Scouts is up to 5th grade. BSA Troops (boys or girls) are for 5th grade up. Both are part of the Scouting America program, what used to be called Boy Scouts. |

Our Cub Scouts pack had one Pack meeting (all grade levels K-5) once a month. Den meetings (grade level) started once a month in K, increasing to every week that we didn't have a pack meeting in 4th-5th. So anywhere from 2 to 4 times a month. Campouts twice a year, and some other weekend activity (all totally optional) another 4-5 times a year, like once every other month during the school year.
Our Troop meets weekly for 1.5 hours, has a campout monthly, and some other optional activities once every couple of months (in addition to the campout that month). |
|
Cub scouts for us meets once a month for the pack. Another tome a month for the dens for a smaller activity. Also 2 camp outs a year, 1-2 all pack hikes, Pinewood Derby and thanksgiving parade.
Just enough for us really. Monthly campout would be fun for many but mot feasible with all other activities most of our den and pack are involved in. |
