Jane reads HFA to me. Thanks to pps for explaining that she’s a nepotism baby. Her time is shout I assume hope.

The trio of funny guys haven’t been featured this season thus far….?

I think they are all hysterically funny & were a great addition to the show.

I seriously saw them going places - but have to admit their first feature film left very little to be desired.

Even Bowen could not save it!

Yes the new girl is so ordinary I think her performances have been unremarkable at best.

Yawn 🥱

She graduated from Santa Monica High School in 2017[3] and attended Oberlin College, where she participated in sketch comedy and edited the college satire publication The Grape.[4]

Interesting twist! I thought it was just her Tiktok following. It's all becoming clear.

She's obviously there for the Gen Zs. And like it or not, her style of comedy is on the rise. Whether this is the right venue for it is an open question. I see Please Don't Destroy as similar and SNL has kept them around. That is a mistake IMHO, but again this seems to be what the young demo wants.

Anyway, nobody's affect will ever be flatter than Michael Che's. I am mystified that he keeps making the cut.

What's her style of comedy? If, like another person suggests, she wrote the water-slide skit, then maybe her talent is as a writer? That skit was funny (and so was the golfing skit). I appreciate that style of comedy. But her acting in the skit was just so flat - how is that a style of comedy? I get the writing aspect but the performance part I'm not seeing?

+1 her acting in the waterslide skit was so off that initially I thought it was an affect or part of the plot

How is Wickline getting so much screen time? She truly looks like she's medicated or a deer in headlights. There's zero charisma and while that might work on a podcast, it doesn't work for SNL.

The Oasis Gallagher Brothers (James Austin Johnson + Sarah Sherman) had us crying in laughter. So ridiculous. And even better, Liam Gallagher hated it lol:

I think she got about 15 seconds of air time this week. I only saw her as part of the tic toc skit.

Yep.

But Emil got a segment on Weekend Update and demonstrated he has the necessary charisma and confidence to carry a bit.

Yep. He’s had a few small part in recent weeks and has demonstrated he can act.

Anonymous wrote:I’m still annoyed they dropped Chloe Trost. Such a good singer and so talented and funny.

There are a million Gen Z comedians who are funnier than Jane. That song was awful.

Same on Chloe Troast - my two favorite sketches from last season were the Orphan and Get That Boy Back songs and I thought her acting and singing in both were pitch perfect. I was shocked she was dropped!

Been wondering about PDT - loved them initially but last season most of their bits were a bust IMO

I also liked her. I thought she was a lot better than some of the ones they kept. And am I the only one who can’t stand Heidi Gardner? Basically all her characters are the same annoying unfunny person. It’s like they keep her on because they need someone to play an irritating Karen type but she is like nails on a chalkboard to me and every sketch she’s in just seems like it’s lazy writing — like, oh this woman is incredibly annoying, so thats funny, right?

The brand-new young Arab guy that debuted on Weekend Update last night was pretty funny.

It was fun to see the Please Don’t Destroy trio back on last night!!

As a gen z, I think Wickline is hilarious. I’ve been following her on tiktok for years and love her skits. I was so excited when I started season 50 and saw that she was in it.

She has a substantial following on TikTok which I think clearly speaks to her talent - or at the very least her draw - as a comedian regardless of her being a nepo baby. Her nepo baby status meant nothing in regards to her gaining followers on Tiktok - nobody on that platform would care to watch her if they didn’t like her content regardless of her “connections.” And she built a large audience prior to joining SNL so it’s not like her popularity came after joining the show.

Her humor is certainly an acquired taste, but there’s definitely a market for it. Because the reception to her was so positive on Tiktok and from people I’ve shown her skits to in my own life, I was shocked to see boards like this talking about how unfunny they think she is (even after viewing her work outside of the show). In my opinion her tiktok skits have been more consistent in quality than the skits SNL has put out the last few years.

That being said, I don’t think they’ve utilized her very well so far this season and it’s clear she’s still finding her footing. I also didn’t think her song was particularly funny. But for me it’s not her delivery that is the issue (her deadpan awkward delivery is part of her appeal), it’s the quality of SNLs writing recently. Some skit ideas are so unfunny, stupid or uninspired that no amount of comedic skill can save them (recent skits like Sushi Glory Hole which even made Andy seem unfunny and the giant horse skit and naked garbage truck skit from season
49 come to mind). I also question whether the writers know how to implement her well in their skits/play to her strengths. I find her much funnier on Tiktok where she’s writing her own material.

That’s just my opinion.Sorry for the long post, I just thought I’d offer a different take on the matter. I’m overall just disappointed to see this kind of backlash to her. I really do think she’s very talented.

ICYMI: she’s supposed to be writing skits for herself.

Np. She’s been on the show for three weeks. Can we cut her a little slack about not getting her own skits on the show just yet? Jeez.

Sure.

But the issue is that she’s visibly uncomfortable on screen. No charisma. Flat.

Emil has had a few small parts and quickly demonstrated he has confidence and charisma—much like Marcello did last year.
