Wickline grew up in Los Angeles.[2] Her father, Mathew Wickline, was a writer for David Letterman and a producer for Martin, The Hughleys, and Pair of Kings and her mother, Marcella Hardart, was a personal assistant to Lorne Michaels during the 14th season of Saturday Night Live. She graduated from Santa Monica High School in 2017[3] and attended Oberlin College, where she participated in sketch comedy and edited the college satire publication The Grape.[4] |
Interesting twist! I thought it was just her Tiktok following. It's all becoming clear. She's obviously there for the Gen Zs. And like it or not, her style of comedy is on the rise. Whether this is the right venue for it is an open question. I see Please Don't Destroy as similar and SNL has kept them around. That is a mistake IMHO, but again this seems to be what the young demo wants. Anyway, nobody's affect will ever be flatter than Michael Che's. I am mystified that he keeps making the cut. |
Please Don’t Destroy is also full of SNL nepo-babies! |
Barf. |
What's her style of comedy? If, like another person suggests, she wrote the water-slide skit, then maybe her talent is as a writer? That skit was funny (and so was the golfing skit). I appreciate that style of comedy. But her acting in the skit was just so flat - how is that a style of comedy? I get the writing aspect but the performance part I'm not seeing? |
The waterslide sketch was based on a bit from Michael Longfellow’s standup, so he likely wrote it. |
Have they left the show? They haven't been on yet this season. |
I'm 58 and thought her song was pretty funny. I think she has to get used to reading cue cards, however. Her delivery of lines in the waterslide skit was always a beat late. But she's new.
My GenZ kids have followed her o TikTok for a few years, and the skits of hers they showed me were funny. Weird and funny.. |
Remember that Please Don't Destroy skit with Dakota Johnson? "Nepo-truce! A foot in the door and so much more!" |
So she’s a total nepo baby |
She comes off as neurodivergent. I assumed it was to bring some diversity? |
Michael Che is great at the news desk. |
? Che can deliver jokes and he has charisma. The fact that he laughs and smiles coupled with his unscripted asides make his performance alongside Colin entertaining. The new girl seems emotionless. Can’t tell if she’s nervous or medicated. Her TikToks don’t show emotion either. She’s stiff and unnatural. Acting is hard and comedy is even more difficult. She’s painful to watch, so I don’t see her making it. If you compare her to others during their first season on snl, you can see who settles in quickly and who doesn’t. Marcello and Longfellow (who is also flat but employs it as his schtick) quickly got comfortable. |
I’m still annoyed they dropped Chloe Trost. Such a good singer and so talented and funny.
There are a million Gen Z comedians who are funnier than Jane. That song was awful. |
Same on Chloe Troast - my two favorite sketches from last season were the Orphan and Get That Boy Back songs and I thought her acting and singing in both were pitch perfect. I was shocked she was dropped! Been wondering about PDT - loved them initially but last season most of their bits were a bust IMO |
