Anyone who needs it, gets $750 on the spot so people have cash to get immediate supplies. That is nowhere close to the extent of what people who need it, can get. What Harris said isn't wrong. MAGAs willfully taking that statement and weaponizing it against her is outright disinformation and unAmerican. |
Valleys are always at risk for floods. Floods are why valleys exist. Helene didn't go Sherman on everything contiguous from Florida to NC. |
Look, if Kamala Harris was so smart, she'd translate everything from English to stupid so people would understand. She should have said "Were going to give you the immigrants' cats" so MAGA would appreciate it. |
Party of death trying to sow chaos and suffering because they can only win by campaigning on misery and fear. |
People just have no idea what FEMA is. Volunteers/donations, do they think it’s part of the Red Cross! People are kept intentionally misinformed. |
From what I can tell other then emergency relief there is low interest loans and some grants for repairs (which seem generally small). Charities also provide some rebuilding assistance. But nobody is getting their million dollar home rebuilding fully paid for without insurance or personal funds. |
The DC metro area is not nearly as vulnerable to hurricanes. The expected annual loss per $100 of building value (due to natural disasters) is relatively low. The EAL for Fairfax County is around 4 cents per $100, Loudoun County 2.4 cents per $100. In Hillsborough County FL, (where Tampa is located) the EAL is around 21 cents per $100. Many places with high EAL's will eventually become uninsurable and the property markets will crash because uninsurable properties are not edible for mortgages. There are numerous places in the US where EALs equal 0.5% or more per year and some places even have EALs in excess of 1% of the building value each year. https://hazards.fema.gov/nri/map |

+100 We have friends who have a second home on the west coast of FL - it was flooded severely during Hurricane Ian, they rebuilt, and now it's being targeted again with this hurricane. I'm wondering how on earth they live with that anxiety and uncertainty all the time! And yes, I'm sick of federal dollars being used again and again on bailing the same communities out. Enough. |
For the people hardest hit, they don’t even have stores nearby that are open. Get a clue. |
And actually you have to apply for it. Using power that you don’t have. Again, tone deaf. |
So, what's the problem? Homeowner's insurance is already skyrocketing in parts of Florida. It sounds like what you think should be happening is already happening. |
How close to the coast are they? |
Up until recently, many Tampans believed that their city was somehow protected against hurricanes due to the west coast location and obtuse angle of the Florida peninsula.
This now seems ludicrous considering the huge bay and heavily populated barrier islands in a major potential flood zone, but it was a common belief at one time. Supposedly, Walt Disney picked Orlando over other parts of Florida specifically due to the inland location, and lower hurricane risk. |
