Actually stupid Ron DeSantis is the one who told the feds not to bother coming to Florida, the state government had things all under control. Then he flew off to fix the strike at the ports. He's a real piece of work. |
Before anyone asks, the American Red Cross and FEMA already have volunteers and supplies on call for this. |
What happened to individual responsibility? Get your own damn flood insurance. Mine is only about $700 per year. The $750 they are getting is preliminary so they can get toothbrushes and a change of clothes. It’s a much quicker response that Trups Hurricane in 2017. Puerto Ricans got nothing for months and very little overall. Trump didn’t know that it is U.S. territory. |
Sure. But there are places where things come together for true once in 100 year storms, which having lived in NC most of my life and in Asheville for a couple of years, appears to be what happened there. And, there are places that are getting hit for the 3rd time in a decade with a 100 year storm. Places where people aren’t done rebuilding before they get hit again. But yes, I think climate change will eventually require most of us to stop denying it and start rethinking how we have always done things. Including WNC. If nothing else, this storm showed that large positions are S— outta luck if I-40 and/or I-29 are out of commission. And I would hope the rebuilding effort would start with looking at what went wrong, how much of it was freakishly bad luck vs a problem waiting to happen, and rebuild smarter, with an eye towards mitigating risks and creating better ingress and egress. And yes, this also includes DC. We might not like to think about it, but eventually the National Mall will be underwater. I think we are more prepared for a disaster in terms of evacuation and shelter Jin place than many places by virtue of living someplace planned with an eye towards terrorism, a nuclear threat, etc. but are in serious denial about the fact DC is basically a swamp. Current building codes should be revised with an eye towards 50 years from now. And if your house in FL keeps getting destroyed, either pay out of pocket the full cost of the rebuild, carry market rate insurance, or let FEMA buy your property, which is in the long run cheaper than a rebuild. This is not sustainable. |
TALLAHASSEE, Fla.—Yesterday, Governor Ron DeSantis announced the launch of Operation Blue Ridge, a comprehensive multi-state agency response aimed at assisting North Carolina and Tennessee in their recovery efforts following the devastating impact of Hurricane Helene. Operation Blue Ridge will mobilize a coordinated effort involving the Florida Division of Emergency Management, Florida State Guard, Florida National Guard, Florida Department of Transportation, Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission, a Florida Law Enforcement Coordination Task Force, and a dedicated Law Enforcement Strike Team. Additionally, under Governor Ron DeSantis’ leadership, Operation Blue Ridge is helping Floridians seeking rescue in Western North Carolina. Those in need of assistance are encouraged to fill out the form at FloridaDisaster.org/OperationBlueRidge. https://www.flgov.com/2024/09/30/icymi-governor-ron-desantis-launches-operation-blue-ridge-in-north-carolina-and-tennessee/ |
Great. Just what Florida and NC need. Death Satan stepping on FEMAs toes and getting in the way of the actual coordinated relief effort. Loser. |
FEMA has had to launch a special web page to correct misinformation like the one first PP posted. Here is the link: https://www.fema.gov/press-release/20241004/fema-launches-web-page-respond-rumors-and-confirm-facts-related-hurricane |
It was stated by Kamala Harris. She was trying to make everyone understand how under control they have it and she said everyone would get $750. Blame her if it is wrong. She said stupid stuff but she is actually running to be president so shockingly people believed her. She is moron and terrified people and made work for FEMA who had to correct the record since she is such a dummy. |
Here is the Whitehouse statement from Kamala. It’s in there!! Just read it. It isn’t misinformation… it’s more or less a quote. But good try. |
Do we actually bail out homeowners without flood and/or hurricane insurance? I know we provide emergency relief for supplies and temporary assistance for housing, but I don’t think the government pays to rebuild houses that don’t have insurance? |
