I'm listening, but they aren't. If they don't want to or can't evacuate, they should stop voting for politicians who don't want to fund federal aid to people like them. |
But if you demonize government for 50 years, you end up in the stressful situation you describe where you don’t trust anyone but yourself. Imagine having confidence in your local government about whether evacuation is necessary. Imagine having a local structure (paid for by local taxes) of experts and first responders that would obviate the need to feel you alone have to protect your property. Imagine trusting the help the federal government sends. Government can help with each and every one of the pragmatic steps you identify and it’s not socialism. It’s civilization. |
+1 You are talking into the air, but I agree with all you've said in your posts. People like the one to whom you're trying to explain the situation are going to turn it into a political statement regardless of facts. |
Government won't stop looters. |
It’s unfortunate that you are also talking into the air and that the righter winged cannot see past their propaganda for even a second. |
Oh look, the mother of all storms turned out to be more hyperbolic bs. |
It was afraid of Desantis and Trump Unstoppable |
Yes. It was a big nothingburger. So FEMA can just stay in North Carolina. The supplies that were pre-positioned can go to North Carolina or back to warehouses. Johnson was smart not to call the House back into session and waste tax dollars. Amazing that the GOP knew that it would be just a little thunderstorm. |
DP it was a nothing. Just another storm hitting Florida. It hit at low tide and moved quickly. It is time for the media to move on. |
Flooding and 3 million people without power = nothingburger |
Doesn't NC need more money though? |
Yes. How many people in texas lose power when it gets cold- 4.5 million. Florida has pretty strong building codes for over 30 years now. The damage is minimal. It’s not like they do not get hurricanes in Florida all the time and Florida is a big state. 90% of the power will be on in a few days. |
The destruction looks bad and thank goodness it was not worse. 6 or more airports are closed. |
Yes some people here are really twisted. Sad |
I don’t live in FL, but listened to one of his press conferences today. The guy exudes competence and compassion. I can see why people love him. |
